It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved papá, nonno, zio Mario Caputi. Mario passed away peacefully on July 27, 2023, surrounded by his family at the Health Sciences Centre.
Papá will be lovingly remembered by his caring wife of 62 years Maria; his son Guido (Kim); and will be deeply missed by his grandson Chazz. He also leaves behind his brother Rodolfo (Emilia); his brothers-in-law, Italo Di Paolo (Anna), Tito Di Paolo (Isa); along with his nieces, Rosaria, Katia, Roberta, Rita, Dina; and his nephews, Vincenzo and Rene.
Mario was predeceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Genoveffa Caputi; his brothers, Antonio, Remo, Ubaldo; and his sister Meria. His sisters-in-law, Dora, Maria, Alba; and brothers-in-law, Amaleto, Tonino and Guido.
Papá was born in Villalago, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1953. He had a brief stay in Calgary and then in 1956 moved to Winnipeg. Mario worked at McGavin’s Bakery for 36 years as a Bakers Helper. He was a dedicated hard-worker and believed in doing quality work in every job that he completed. He will be remembered as a person who would go out of his way to help anyone. He was a man of few words and when he spoke, it was with purpose and meaning – he was an honest man.
Some of dad’s passions were sports, cheering for his Winnipeg Jets, Blue Bombers and his favourite wrestlers, Chris Jericho, Stone Cold, and Hulk Hogan. He enjoyed jumping on the bus and doing his weekly Friday grocery shopping at Delucas. Mario loved all people and enjoyed going to the Polo Park Shopping Centre for his daily cup of coffee and a chat with the guys. He enjoyed playing the Scratch + Win and Pull Tab lottery tickets with Chazz. He was so happy when he won, even if it was for 50 cents. Mario was a man of faith and was the leader in collecting donations in Winnipeg for supporting the San Domenico Abate festivities back home in Villalago.
Our family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the extremely kind and thoughtful doctors, nursing staff, and support staff at the Grace Hospital and Health Sciences Centre.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Winnipeg, MB, with condolences at 9:00 a.m. Reverend Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment will follow at Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.
