GINETTE BALCAEN

1959 - 2023

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our own beloved Ginette on July 22, 2023, at 64 years old.

She leaves to mourn her brothers and sisters Raymond (Karen Gustau), Nicole (Pierre Dizengremel), Gisèle (Raymond Nicolas), Denis (Pam Wiebe), Suzanne (Fernand Durand), and her sister-in-law Gisèle (Desharnais) Balcaen. She also leaves thirty much loved nieces and nephews and twenty-one precious great-nieces and great-nephews. She was greeted in heaven by her mom and dad, Fernand and Georgette (Rocan) Balcaen, and her brothers Roger and Gilbert.

Ginette was born on May 25, 1959, in St. Boniface, Manitoba. From a young age, her desire to help others and the joy she received from bringing them happiness was evident. Her selflessness inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare. She received her Registered Nurse diploma from RRCC in 1985, followed by her Bachelor or Nursing (B.N.) from U of M in 1989. She then completed her Bachelor of Arts from St. Boniface College in 1991. Before starting her career in nursing, she volunteered for one year in Haiti in 1983. She then worked in medicine at Victoria Hospital for seven years, at the Grey Nuns Infirmary as Head Nurse for seven years, and then at Taché Centre as Program Manager for ten years. She also volunteered with the Boy Scouts of Manitoba for eighteen years. But above all, family and friends were most important to her and she deeply cherished any and all family gatherings. No matter what, she always made herself available to anyone, at any time and for whatever reason. She always strived to bring happiness to those around her. That was our Ginette.

No words can ever express how much you shall be missed. Thank you for all that you have brought to our lives. We love you dearly and you will be in our hearts forever.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 9, 2023, at St. Boniface Cathedral. Eulogy at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ginette’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 310 broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

Ginette was a force of nature yet the humblest person I knew. Through her physical struggles, she always kept a smile on her face. She served 18 years as a Scouter with Scouts franco-manitobains. She will be missed and remembered by all youths she mentored along the way. She will also be missed as an cherished member of the Honor Court to the Flame of Scouting whose medal she received in January of this year. Rest dear sister next to the One you were privileged to serve You've earned it Gingin! - Posted by: Claire B - Forêt prudente (collègue, soeur Scoute, amie) on: Aug 09, 2023
