Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA ROSE BUTTERWORTH
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Vera at the age of 95.
Vera was predeceased by her husband Doug of 49 years and siblings, Ernie, Muriel and Ron. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Paul (Rosemary) and Dianne.
Vera was born in Holmfield, Manitoba to Constance Rose Hill and Alfred Edward Tayler and was the oldest of four siblings. She started her teaching career in one-room rural schools. She went to college in Winnipeg to get a qualification as a teacher and later went back to university to complete a Bachelor of Arts. She met her husband Douglas Butterworth on a blind date and they married in 1954. Later they welcomed two children, Paul and Dianne. She resumed teaching and went on to become a resource teacher, a job that she loved. She achieved a Bachelor of Education degree, studying part-time while holding down a full-time job.
Vera was an avid reader and knitter and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. She was a long time supporter of the Manitoba Theater Centre where she attended for many years. She loved to travel and our family spent many summers travelling across Canada in a pop-up trailer. In later years, she enjoyed many trips to Europe, but Canada was always her favourite. She marvelled at what she described as breathtaking when she visited Churchill and Nunavit.
Vera was well known for her charity work, her positivity, kindness and her endless smile. She will be missed by her family and all those who were fortunate to have known her.
A big thank you to Dr. L. Blom and staff on 2W at Riverview Health Centre. Your dedication to the care and well being of Vera was outstanding. She was truly blessed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross in Vera’s name.

So sorry to hear about Vera. She was such a warm, caring and positive person. I became good friends with Dianne when we kids and enjoyed spending time with her immediate family. Paul and Rosemary, I'm sure you'll remember the good times with her. I lost my Dad in March and miss him so much but remember so many memories of our family's life. Take care and hold each other just a little bit closer. - Posted by: Laurene Wyspianski (Friend of the family) on: Aug 08, 2023

When my Mother (Tina Anderson) lived on the 3rd floor of Dakota House, I talked often to Mrs. Butterworth while she enjoyed working on many jigsaw puzzles. Mrs. Butterworth was so pleasant, easy to talk with, and her smile lit up the puzzle room. I send my sincere sympathy to her family. - Posted by: Beverley Collins (Acquaintance) on: Aug 06, 2023

Condolences to Vera's family. Rosemary and Paul I knew your mom from church then when visiting folks at Dakota House, and through many years with Rosemary keeping me current on how Vera was doing. Your mom leaves lots of folks who remember her with affection! - Posted by: Susan McIvor (Family friend) on: Aug 05, 2023
