MARY POLLAK

(nee MARUSCHAK)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Mary, in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Holy Family Nursing Home.

She is predeceased by her husband Thomas (2015); parents, William and Sophie; sister Anne; and brothers, Peter and Michael. She is survived by her children, Diane, Sharon (Al), Ernest (Amanda), Pauline (Fred), Paul (Ev), Donna (Al); 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are numerous nieces and nephews born in Canada and Slovakia, our Dad’s home country.

Mom was born on October 3, 1931, in Stuartburn, MB where she lived on a farm that is now tall grass prairie land where so many fond memories were made, and we go back to visit and have a picnic every year.

Mom was a supportive and loving wife, mother, and Baba who passed on her gifts of family, strength, traditions, love, and laughter. She had the opportunity to travel with Dad to Slovakia, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and Mexico. One of Mary’s jobs that she was most proud of was her time working at the Holy Family Nursing Home as a Health Care Aide for over 20 years. Mom was also a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 45 years.

The family would like to thank the staff and Doctors A. and T. Babick of 2A at the Holy Family Nursing Home for their compassionate care during her time there.

Mom’s funeral services will be celebrated at St. John Cantius Church, 846 Burrows Ave., on Wednesday August 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., with interment and reception to follow at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,

You make me happy when skies are grey.

You’ll never know dear,

how much I love you.

Please don’t take my sunshine away.

Her spirit is infinite – Mom will lovingly and forever live on in our hearts.

  • Condolences Our thoughts and prayers are with you I grew up across the street from Mary and it was like a second home. I have many happy memories of summers going to Grand Beach and just hanging around enjoying the wonderful smells of baking on weekends. My favorite were the elephant ears. Mary will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Kathy Tremblay (Friend ) on: Aug 13, 2023
