Peter Desiatnyk was born on April 6, 1930. He grew up on a farm south of Sandy Lake, Manitoba with two brothers and two sisters. Peter attended Martindale School, where he loved to complete in all sports and won numerous medals. He worked on the farm with his dad, helping with haying and picking stones, as well as helping his mom gather eggs and milking cows. He loved to fish, which he inherited from his father and would go as often as he could. He also enjoyed picking wild saskatoons, strawberries, and cranberries, but his favourite was picking mushrooms. He played baseball and curled and loved to watch all sports and even had season tickets to the Brandon Wheat Kings. He also loved to watch his kids and grandkids play, and went to as many events as he could.
He married Ella A. Weigelt on August 17, 1956 and had five children. They lived south of Sandy Lake, on a hill overlooking Wolf Lake. He attended the Presbyterian Church where he was on the Board of Directors and the Session. His faith was very important to him. In 2002, he retired to Hobbs Manor in Brandon, where he lived to present day.
He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Dora Desiatnyk; sister Phyllis Desiatnyk; brothers Maurice and Paul Desiatnyk, and son Darwin Desiatnyk. Peter is survived by his wife Ella; children Deb (Larry) Burtnick, Ken (Cindy) Desiatnyk, Bev (Doug) MacDougall, and Karen Bertrand; sisters: Helen (Bernie) and Sylvia (Barry); 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332 8th Street, Brandon, MB on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Peter may be made to Diabetes Canada, 401 – 1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4C6.

Peter Desiatnyk passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the age of 93 years.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Diabetes Canada, 401-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6.
