JESSALYN HOGBERG-MAGLINAO
It is with shattered hearts that we announce the passing of Jessalyn Hogberg-Maglinao (Jessa) at the age of 36. After a 6 month courageous battle with cancer she lost her fight on August 21, 2023.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved spouse Michael John Maglinao who was her side 24/7 for the past 6 months and who became her primary caregiver, precious baby son Jensen Maglinao, mom Diane Paquin, brother Larson Hogberg and his wife Holly, Auntie Carole and Uncle Fred Fingler and their family, her 3 cats that she adored and family dog Riley.
She was predeceased by her dad Brian Hogberg who passed away unexpectedly in June 2022 who she missed every day.
Jess attended West St Paul Elementary School then graduated with a high school diploma from Laureate Academy. She then obtained an Office Technology Certificate from Louis Riel Arts and Tech Centre and an Educational Assistant Diploma from U of W. She worked for RETSD for a few years then for a number of Day Care Centres. From a young age she knew she wanted a career working with children. At the time of her passing she was on maternity leave from Roblin Park Day Care Centre which she enjoyed very much and where she made many friends.
Weekends and summers growing up were spent at the family cottage in Sioux Narrows where she loved swimming, boating, fishing and where she had her first job. She hoped to spend time there with her own family. She also enjoyed the numerous family trips in the motor home as well as many trips to Mexico, the Caribbean, and her favourite, Las Vegas.
Over the years she had many interests, including photography, working out at the gym, Salsa dancing, and in particular, had a passion for Zumba. She became certified as an instructor and her Zumba friends were like a second family.
For the past few summers, she could be seen riding with the John in the colorful Vickar Jeepney attending various festivals and events to take photos for local newspapers. She also liked reviewing restaurant meals on her blog. She became an active participant in the Filipino community where she made many specials friends.
Her greatest joy was becoming a Mom to baby Jensen and she was looking forward to a beautiful life with him and John. Although her illness only allowed her to be with Jensen for a short time she loved every minute she spent with him as his Mom.
The family would like to thank HSC staff on GD4 and GB2 for caring for Jess as well as thanks to friends, co-workers and her Zumba family for all the kindness and support shown towards Jess during this difficult time. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, her strong but gentle spirit, her determination and zest for life.
A private family service and interment will be held at Glen Eden. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Peters Catholic Church on September 1 at 5:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life to follow at 6pm at FCCC 737 Keewatin Ave for those who wish to share memories of Jess.
In lieu of flowers kindly consider making a donation to CancerCare Manitoba or to the account that has been set up in trust for Jensen's education at Cambrian Credit Union, Trust Account #501116, in care of Diane Paquin.
