It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wayne Van Walleghem announce his sudden passing on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Health Sciences Centre.

He is also survived by his brother Bob (Betty) and his sisters-in-law, Denise and Pauline Gervais, Madeleine Dupuis, and Janine, Claudette, Yvette and Agnes St. Hilaire, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Wayne spent several years working for the family business at Cambridge Dairies where he met Roger and Lucien St. Hilaire. It was through them that he met the love of his life, Leonne and they married on May 14, 1966. Wayne made a career of driving for companies including Cambridge Dairies, Forgan Meats and Trimac, before retiring in 2009. He put his driving experience to good use to assist with his volunteering activities. He drove for St. Pierre EMS and enjoyed being able to drive his friends and family to events and appointments becoming affectionately known as their own “Uber”.
Wayne and Leonne were blessed with two children, Michelle and Cory, and adopted their third “furry” child, Tasha. Many of the neighbourhood dogs enjoyed running into Wayne on their walks as he could always be counted on to have a treat for them. Wayne enjoyed many activities throughout his life including bowling, attending Blue Bomber games and getting together for coffee with his friends.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba. A private interment will take place at the St. Pierre Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Wayne’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

I grew up with Wayne on Cambridge St., both Leaf fans at the time, worked with Wayne at Cambridge Dairies summer of 1965, 6 days a week, after every day we got in Wayne's Green Chevy & went to the A&W on Pembina no matter how tired we were. I moved away in March 1966 & Wayne got married in May 1966. The Cambridge Gang was a great place to grow up. To my FRIEND Wayne we grew up together & grew apart, you are a GREAT FRIEND, RIP my friend & condolences to the family. I was very happy to see Wayne on my last trip to Winnipeg this summer. He came to a luncheon get-together for my dad's side of the family, De Baets. Since I moved away from Winnipeg a long time ago and now live in Ottawa, it was a long time since I saw Wayne though I did see aunty Annie and uncle Mike. I can see from the obituary that Wayne must have been very kind offering his services to those in his family and he is well remembered. - Posted by: Leonard De Baets (cousin) on: Aug 30, 2023

I am saddened of the news of Wayne's passing. Wayne is the kind of neighbour anyone would be blessed to have. I moved to the city 5+ years ago and Wayne & Leonne were both quick to make me feel welcome in the condo and the area of St. Boniface. Wayne, when taking Tasha out would regularly lift her up to see my window, to see my cats. We would joke "is that your friend in the window?". Wayne and Tasha were a daily fixture around the neighborhood. Wayne was there after I burned my eyebrows off in a bbq mishap and taught me that the bbq shouldn't be lit right after being closed and filling up with propane. Whether it was in passing or during our winter shoveling sessions, Wayne always had time for a hello and a conversation. Wayne will be missed greatly by so many. My sincere condolences to the entire family. Vichnaya Pamyat (Memory Eternal) -Natalie - Posted by: Natalie Tayaryn (Neighbour & Friend ) on: Aug 30, 2023
