Leonard “Len” Neufeld passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home on Monday, August 28, 2023, at the age of 83 years.
Len was born on October 15, 1939, on the family farm near Horndean, MB, to Justina and George Neufeld. He had three brothers, John, Jake (Ruth) and Arnie (Trudi) as well as two sisters, Linda (George) and Alvena. He is survived by numerous nephews and nieces as well as special friend, Phyl Crosson.
Len attended school in Kane, Grossweide and Winkler. His secondary education was at the University of Manitoba. Len was a teacher and school administrator for 37 years at Hutterite colonies, and in the towns of Crystal City, Lynn Lake, Morden, Elkhorn, Killarney and Forrest. He always enjoyed community activities, was a member of the Lions Club for 25 years, the Elks, and he enjoyed volunteering at personal care homes and driving cancer patients to their appointments.
Len married and had three daughters: Candace, Shannon, and Rhonda. He will also be remembered by his two grandchildren, Traci and Kyle. Marlene‘s children Sherry, Heather, and Scott and their families also played a part in his life.
Len was a prostate cancer survivor and was part of the Brandon support group. His main hobbies were woodworking, photography gardening, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Senior Slow pitch with the Manitoba Coyotes for 18 years. After retirement, Len and his wife Marlene escorted tours for McPhail Travel to Portugal, Victoria, Palm Desert, baseball games and numerous trips to Branson Missouri. Len travelled to many countries around the world as well as spending 24 winters in Arizona.
Due to ill health caused by Lewy Body dementia he moved into Hillcrest Home where he resided for 14 months until his passing. We cannot say enough about the care and compassion that the nurses and healthcare aides on the 1st floor showed our family during Lens’s final days. Thank you!
A Celebration of Len’s Life will be held at Trinity united Church, 1515-6th Street, on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations could be sent to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 457 9th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 1K2.
