DENNIS ALBERT SCHAEFER

May 14, 1937 - August 24, 2023


With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dennis Schaefer on August 24, 2023 at Grace Hospital at the age of 86.

Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his second wife Sandra (nee Weber); son David (Katherine); granddaughter Amber; sister Trudy (Craig) Wallis and stepsons, David and Richard Stawn. He will also be missed by nephew and nieces, Chris and Kim Wallis, Kathy (Bob) Carter and Susan (Darren) Shaw.

Dennis was predeceased by his first wife Elaine (nee Watt); son Jim; brother Larry; sister-in-law Etty (nee Kirchhofer); nephew Brian and parents, Arthur and Emily (nee Weitzel).

Dennis was born on May 14, 1937 in Winnipeg. He attended Faraday and Isaac Newton schools. Dad began his career with Canadian National Railway before moving to Manitoba Department of Highways and Transportation where he was employed as Manager of Transportation Policy until his retirement in 1995.

Dad loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and especially spending time with friends and family at the cabin which he built at Ingolf, Ontario. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking, photography, music and carpentry. In retirement he enjoyed golf and travelling. Dad will forever be remembered for his thoughtfulness, laughter and smile.

Celebration of Dennis’s life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road on Tuesday, September 5th at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Lowe officiating. Interment will follow.
