After making his way through this world for 78 years, touching many hearts, Henry Rempel of Brandon, Manitoba, surrounded by his family, passed to the other side on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
Henry was born on January 2, 1945. He was raised on a fruit farm in St. Catharines, Ontario where his father worked as a foreman. There were cherry, pear, plum, apple and many varieties of peach trees. Because Henry was the only child at home, he spent many happy hours rafting, boating, fishing, hunting, and swimming along the waterway that bordered the farm. With walks in the woods, his interest in bird watching began.
After high school, Henry started as an apprentice in the electrical trade, which carried him through the years when other work was not available.
Henry met Helen Klassen through church involvement. They were married in 1969. After a year they decided to move to Winnipeg to attend CMBC. While living at CMBC, Brenlee (1971), and Garret (1973), joined the family. Upon graduation Henry got a degree in Anthropology from the University of Manitoba.
With a degree in Anthropology Henry started work as an interviewer at the Oo-za-we-kwun Centre in Rivers, Manitoba. When that job ended Henry found employment with the Province of Manitoba as an employment counselor.
Henry lived a full and happy life filled with love, laughter and many adventures. He touched many lives in his service to others. After his wife died, he and Anneliese Baerg were committed to each other in a loving relationship, which they enjoyed for 23 years.
He was predeceased by his father, mother, his first wife, two sisters, two brothers, three sisters-in-law, one son-in-law, and one grandson.
He is survived by his partner Anneliese Baerg, his daughter Brenlee, son Garret (Karen), grandchildren Caleb, Zachary, Ethan, Tate, Piper, six nephews and a cousin Helen Dyck.
The Celebration of Life for Henry Rempel will take place on Sunday, September 24, 2023, in the foyer of the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium, 205 20th Street, Brandon at 2:30 p.m. (Please use Parking Lots #5 and #6.)

Words for my Dad: Hello and thank you for coming. I am so sad I could not be here as I was supposed to be, but things work out the way that they do. And I would not have been able to say anything in person so now I get a chance. I just wanted to say some words about my Dad. He truly was the best dad ever. He was the most positive person. I can’t seem to recall when or if he was ever in a bad mood. He was goofy too. Loved his jokes. Though as a teenager, he didn’t seem all that funny! But I’m glad I grew out of that. He was always supportive of whatever silly schemes or dreams that I had. He and Garret drove me out to BC – that was a trip! And then he left me behind! But we kept in touch. We had great times when he would come out to visit me. He loved Vancouver but I never could get him to stay out here. He drove me to gymnastics and swim practices – at 5:30 AM no less! In Manitoba winters too! He was a champ. He took care of my gerbils and later on, my dear dogs – Tanqueray, Tonic, Magic and Dizzy. He called them his grand-dogs. He was always supportive and accepting. Of me, of my friends, okay maybe not all of my boyfriends but he would usually come around! He always had time for me – to answer my questions or to just be my sounding board. He would not really give advice but always had faith that I would figure stuff out. He could be a great devil’s advocate. He gave options so that I made the correct choices. We would go to movies together or watch at home and we would have great discussions after about the characters or the story line. It is already a different life without him. I would call him if I was having a bad day. And sometimes I would not even talk about the bad stuff. It was just a comfort to hear his voice and know that I was so loved, no matter what. I truly am so blessed and grateful that I got to be his daughter. I am a better person because of him. I miss you so much, Dad. And I love you to infinity and beyond. Until we meet again.
