ROBERT (BOB) EARL WERNER

December 2, 1946 - September 16, 2023

Bob passed away peacefully after a short and courageous battle with Desmoplastic Mesothelioma, with his wife Shirley by his side.

Bob is survived by his wife Shirley; children, Mellissa (Mitch) Samuel and Gabriel; Amanda (Sean) Laine and Jeremy; Christopher and his son Lex. He also leaves behind many relatives and special friends.

Bob grew up in Winnipeg but spent most of his spare moments on his uncles’ family farms. Bob met the love of his life Shirley in 1966. From then on, he spent his free moments on her family farm. They dated and were married on September 29, 1971. She was everything to him. They were always holding hands and spending time together. They would talk about everything, play games together and travelled together over the years.

They started their lives together in Winnipeg, where Bob worked in the sheet metal industry. He worked commercial construction; building the Richardson Building, the Centennial Concert Hall and many others. In 1978 he moved his family to Golden Bay and worked at AECL until 1986. During his time at AECL he also owned and operated Werner’s Heating and Dr. Bob’s Bait & Jigs. His next venture was Earl’s Taxidermy. This was definitely his calling as he had clients from Canada, the USA and Europe coming to him for their taxidermy needs.

He was an extremely talented artist. Over the years he made beaded mukluks and gauntlets. He was an incredible painter, not only on canvas, he also painted several murals and dioramas to showcase his taxidermy work. Bob also enjoyed cutting lumber on his sawmill and creating all types of boards on his four sided planer. Later on he made Live Edge sofa tables and Harvest tables. Bob also loved the bush. He is famous for berry and mushroom picking and creating his own blueberry picker. He and his family would cut and split all of their firewood for the coming winter. His other hobbies were hunting, trapping and fishing right to the end.

Bob and Shirley moved up to Manigotagan in 2009. He loved living there and being immersed in the forest. Now in retirement, he cleared a trapline over nine kilometers long. Before going out on his trapline he would always talk to his Creator. Trapping was always an adventure and with any luck he wouldn’t come home empty handed. He always said that being in the forest was his favorite place, it brought him peace.

Keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place and we will scatter his ashes once the trapline is frozen. This will be his final resting place. A private celebration will be held in spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in hopes that more cures are found.
