EDWARD (TED) DUNSFORD

It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Edward (Ted) Frank Dunsford after a long battle with cancer on September 19, 2023.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 46 years, Marlene; his children, Andrew (Alexandra) and Katherine; his grandchildren, Alyssa and Adrianna; and many relatives and friends.

He was born in Winnipeg on March 21, 1947. Ted started his professional career as a red seal electrician and continued his studies by completing his Electrical Technology diploma. From there he decided to shift focus and teach Electrical at Red River College. While teaching at Red River College, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Management. After years as an Electrical instructor, Ted transitioned into managerial roles with K.T. Industries, executive roles with Coldstream Canada, and concluded his career as the President & CEO of Dominion Tanners.

In his youth, he enjoyed playing all sports. As an adult, he cheered for his favourite sports teams and continued playing tennis, curling, and golfing with his family at St. Charles Country Club. He was Marlene’s sous chef and loved being a Dad and Gigi with his hearty laugh.

Service to be held at St. Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, September 27th at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ted’s memory to Misericordia Hospital, Grace Hospital or CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Oh my, even though I'm hearing this a year and a half late I am so sorry to hear this news. I was sitting here thinking about how Marlene and Ted's encouragement changed my life when I worked at Dominion Tanners. Marlene put in a good word for me when we were taking accounting class together and Ted encouraged me to go back to accounting school when I worked for him. He was the first person in my whole life that encouraged me to further my education and that I was worth something. I was looking him up today so I could contact him and give him and Marlene my heartfelt thank you. I know they would be proud of me and how I've learned to stand on my own feet and now I'm the Production Controller, Maintenance Planner for our Manitoba Water Bombers. Sending love and gratitude 💕 - Posted by: Kim Hooper (Colleague) on: Jan 26, 2025

  • I worked under Ted in the 90s and always considered him a mentor, as an engineering Technologist in management Ted encouraged and pushed me to go back to school in business management. I am forever grateful for that advice achieving my MBA has opened many of the doors that Ted exactly said would happen. Although we lost touch as my family and I relocated to Alberta I do wish the family our condolences. - Posted by: Warren Harder (Former employee Dominion Tanners) on: Nov 04, 2023

  • My sincere sympathy Marlene, Andrew and Katherine. A huge void will have to be filled with many great memories. Cherish them all and speak often of all the great memories as it helps lessen the heaviness left in our hearts. • Upon learning of a friend’s passing, I have mixed emotions. First, there is sadness that the final chapter of, in this case a childhood companion, had arrived. But then good memories surface and I smile. This is the earliest. As “pre-schoolers” we lived about 10 houses away from each other at a time when back-lanes were our playground. I fondly remember that one day we found a can of discarded paint and used sticks to re-decorate our tricycles. The parental consequences of our actions are less clear. I hope my anecdote brings Ed’s family as much pleasure as it does for me. Life took us in different directions, but our reunion at the Weston Boys Golf Tournament was a momentous day for a number of us. We will miss him.
