Frances Hubbard passed away at the age of 95 on September 18, 2023.
She was born June 4, 1928, in Calgary Alberta to Janie and Stanley Ferns. She moved to Winnipeg in 1929 where she attended Luxton School and St. John's High School. She graduated from the U of M with a B.A. in 1949 and from Education in 1950.
She married Fred Hubbard in 1951. They were together for 66 years until his death in 2017. She worked as a teacher and at the Westwood Public Library and the Winnipeg Free Press. After retirement she worked as a volunteer at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
She was a longtime patron and supporter of the arts in Winnipeg, most notably, the Winnipeg Symphony, Manitoba Opera, the RMTC and PTE Theatre as well as the WAG. She was recently honored by the Manitoba Opera for her 50 years of support.
She and her husband enjoyed travelling and made trips to Britain, Europe, Canada (coast to coast) and USA.
She is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Jane, Elizabeth, Julie, David, son-in-law Glenn, and daughter-in-law Cheryl; her grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Kailey, Michelle, Christopher, Amberly and their families including her great-grandchildren, Noah, Leah, Abigail, Callum and Camden. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial will be held at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre.
Her family would appreciate memorial donations to be made to either the Winnipeg Symphony, Manitoba Opera, Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg Foundation, or another charity of your choice.
