MAUREEN PLAYFAIR
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Maureen Playfair (nee Trann) on September 20, 2023.
She will be immeasurably missed by son Dan (Tiffany) and daughter Erin (Blair) along with her grandchildren, Aidan, Luca, Aurora, Isla, and Lochlan. She will also be missed by her sister Rosemary (Morley), and brother Richard. She was predeceased by her husband Don, and her parents, Alvin and Trixie. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Maureen was born on December 23, 1948, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, growing up in Elmwood. Maureen described this neighbourhood as an ideal place filled with kids playing, and here she made lifelong friends, her “Elmwood Crew”, who continued to get together through the years. Her future husband Don came into her life and was introduced to the good times enjoyed by her extended Irish family and neighbourhood friends. In turn, he introduced her to Ken and Bonnie, becoming fast friends for life. After marrying, Maureen moved to Lac du Bonnet which would be her home for the next 40 years. Throughout this time more friendships were made at work, curling, and in the community, including a special Book Club which she remained a part of after she moved back to Winnipeg.
Maureen worked as a travel agent, spurring her love for travel; enjoyable FAM trips with Klara, and going to Asia, Europe and Hawaii with Don, and the annual family trips to Banff to ski. Maureen loved to spend time at her cottage gardening while Don worked on fixing things up. Mostly, Maureen loved spending time with her family and friends.
Maureen loved flowers, but in lieu of flowers, please donate to Scleroderma Manitoba or the ALS Society of Manitoba.
A celebration will be held at a later date.
