Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAREN LEE SKREPNEK
After an unexpected illness, Karen Lee Skrepnek (Webber) passed away on September 21, 2023.
She is survived by husband Alan, daughter Carrie and son Matthew (Maylee). She also leaves to mourn her brother Todd Webber (Cathie) and most-precious niece, Julia. She was predeceased by her parents Doug and Joyce and brother Blair. Karen’s cousin Susan Hart “Fave” was in affect her older sister in whom she confided daily.
Karen attended Vincent Massey Collegiate and maintained relationships with several alumni. She started work with the Manitoba Water Resources Branch in the summer of 1973 where she met a hundred eligible professional engineers and one ‘resourceful’ planner, Alan, whom she married in 1977. She went on with her provincial government career to become Assistant Manager, Executive Council, Legislative Building.
Karen was very close with her parents with whom she and her family shared a cottage at Bird River since 1978. She loved spending time with her extended family on every holiday or special occasion and most weekends at the cottage from spring to fall. Karen was the ‘glue’ that held her family together during difficult times - earning her the nickname “Sticky”.
During Winnipeg’s five-month winter she also enjoyed multiple trips with Alan to England, Mexico and Cuba. A trip to Italy with the girls from the office was particularly memorable. Invariably, Karen’s vacation highlight was meeting people which is interesting since she was so very shy during her youth. Saturdays would often find Karen meeting ‘the girls’ for shopping and lunch; these shopping trips even extended to Arizona on several occasions.
A private farewell service has taken place. Karen’s family would very much appreciate that friends and relatives take a few minutes to click on her tribute page to share their memories and stories of happier times.
The family wishes to acknowledge the most highly skilled efforts and exemplary compassion of her entire medical team at St. Boniface Hospital.

Karen, you were always waving & smiling at me when I skied past you suntanning on your dock at the cabin. Many great times were shared on Oiseau. We miss your big smiles. - Posted by: Glen Kowalchuk (Ski buddy) on: Nov 19, 2023

Ah! The beautiful memories of working with Karen in Executive Council in the Legislative Building! We were “the Leg Girls” and now sadly one of us is gone. It is unimaginable! Working together there were sometimes periods of significant stress - with our heavy workloads and the high expectations of an office of this nature. But we got through it all coming together as a team, collaborating with each other, sharing the workload stress and complementing each other’s strengths. Following a “teammate’s” work related crisis we often needed time to wind down and de-stress. Karen often provided the needed therapy with her sense of humour and giggles that resulted in much needed laughter from all of us. Karen was hilarious and she had such an infectious laugh! These circumstances eventually lead us to a closeness like that of a family unit. We shared each other’s joys and sorrows. We celebrated each others birthdays (especially the significant ones), family births, engagements, etc. with flair! Birthday cake was a staple at each birthday celebration - at which the birthday girl pretended to be incredibly surprised that her birthday was being recognized when the cake was presented at exactly 3 pm - such amazing actors we were! Every year at Christmas there was a heated debate about the theme of the office Christmas Tree. Should it be a Royal theme or a traditional theme? When some of us retired or moved on to other jobs, we all continued to stay in touch and met for dinners or lunches regularly. And the enjoyment of each other’s company and of course the laughter and merriment continued. We are devastated that Karen is no longer with us. When we meet for dinner, there will be an empty seat at the table and an empty place in our hearts. Things will never be the same. A toast to you Karen from the balcony of Stresa, Italy. May you rest in peace our beloved friend. Your beautiful smile, your infectious laugh and your endearing friendship will live on in our hearts forever. ❤️ Your loving Leg Friends, Peggy, Maria, Viviane, Lynn and Karen - Posted by: Karen H (Friend) on: Oct 12, 2023

I will miss that smile. You always made me happy when we saw each other, and I got that warm hug. This hurts. I'll miss you dearly. Michael - Posted by: Michael Mizak (Cousin) on: Oct 02, 2023

I am absolutely shocked and heartbroken after reading of Karen's passing. Alan and family, please accept my and Jeff's sincere condolences. Karen and I were friends from elementary to high school and after. I spent many summers with Karen and her family at their trailer at Lake Breton and always had good times and created lots of memories. We kept in touch for a few years after graduating. We met for lunch fairly regularly and I remember her telling me about this great guy, Alan, that she met at work. Karen was in my wedding party, but as we all got busy building our lives and families, we drifted apart. We did attend a couple of school reunions together and it was like no time had passed. I will so miss her infectious laugh. Gone to soon. I send my sincere condolences to the Webber and Skrepnek families. - Posted by: Jennifer Morris (school friend) on: Sep 26, 2023

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Karen's passing. Karen and I went to school together starting at quite a young age and into our teens. Karen was fun to be with, kind and articulate but it was her humour that I remember the most We lost touch after leaving school only running across each other a handful of times over the decades but it was always like meeting up with a dear friend. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends. - Posted by: Lori Reuther (Peshke) (School friend) on: Sep 25, 2023

I was heartbroken to get this news Friday morning. Karen was a bright light in my life. I met her when I was 12 years old she was 14 going on 15 but for some reason teens back then seemed older. She was beautiful and wore turtleneck sweaters like nobody's business. Karen had the most beautiful blue eyes and long blonde hair, she was a knockout to say the least. I saw her quite a bit back then she was with a group that my brother hung out with and Karen was always so nice and took time to talk to me and make me feel special. We got older lost touch she got married I got married we had families. We reconnected when the sister of one of her old friends from school passed. It was the start of another era of our friendship. I was so blessed to have her in my life she was a straight shooter when we talked and I valued her perceptions of what she thought about things. Our family was so happy that she came to my daughter's wedding in 2019. Raylene and Tellus were thrilled to have her there. We kept in touch off and on when pandemic hit and after were able to get out and renew old times and see pictures of both our families. Karen loved her family very much and was so proud to be with Alan Aunt and Uncle to Julia. Karen would come over to our home with her Mom Joyce and Julia and join us for Xmas Eve for a few years. Karen loved that Julia called her Dee Dee. My heart goes out to The Skrepnek Family and To The Webber Family. Karen will be so missed and I wish you gentle times ahead as you go through this journey of loss, Much Love from The Paci Family - Posted by: Carol (friend ) on: Sep 23, 2023
