HILDEGARD FRITZSCHE
Hildegard passed away peacefully at the age of 95 after a short illness. Born in East Prussia (Fischhausen), her formative years were scarred by the trials and tribulations of the Second World War. A refugee at a young age, her courage and determination led to the beginning of a new life in Canada and the legacy of a loving family. She was very strong, generous, dutiful, and caring.
Left to celebrate her remarkable life are her sons, Wolfgang (Sharron) and Claus (Norma); her four loving grandchildren, Gordon, Eric, Kristyna, and Derek along with their spouses; and nine great-grandchildren.
Hildegard was the eldest of four siblings born to Walter Plew and Maria Plew (Rehberg). She met her husband, Alex, in the challenging circumstances of post-war Germany. They were married in 1950 and made the decision to move their young family to Winnipeg in 1955. Their hard work, love, and nurturing established solid roots for the family and they enjoyed watching it grow for 58 years together, much of it in East Kildonan, before he passed away in 2008.
Despite a number of health challenges in the last few years, Hildegard continued to live on her own. Her strength and the care and support of her sons allowed her to make the most of the twilight of her years. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, and the work of the palliative care unit in helping her through her final hours.
Hildegard’s Funeral Service will be held on October 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.
