Offer Condolences or Memory(BETTY) DOROTHY ELIZABETH PODJAN
Peacefully on September 27, 2023, at the remarkable age of 102, Betty passed away at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg.
Betty will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her children, Dorothy (Dick), and Jim; her grandchildren, Marnie (Chris), Kim (Len) and James (Melanie); her great-grandchildren, Kian, Matthew (Emma), Amy, Justin and Taylor; great-great granddaughter Alaya; sister-in-law Mabe Harwood and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Ernie; parents, Ethel and Samuel Harwood; brother, Bob Harwood, and grandson-in-law, Alan Rogers.
Born on February 1, 1921 and raised in Winnipeg, MB, Betty’s life spanned over a century witnessing many changes in our world. Betty met the love of her life, Ernie at Burns Foods where she worked at the canteen, and they were married during the Second World War. They were among the first people to live in the Veterans Affairs community of Rivercrest where they raised their family. They were very active members of the close-knit community and were involved in the building of Rivercrest Community Club and Rivercrest United Church. During Ernie’s working years with Burns Foods they were transferred to Brandon, MB, Medicine Hat, AB, and Lethbridge, AB from 1968 to 1979. In 1979 they retired, happily returning home to Winnipeg and family. Betty made lifelong friends in all the places she lived. Betty loved spending her summers at the cabin they built at Laclu, ON. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and made a quilt for each member of the family. She was also an amazing cook and baker, and was the designated pie maker for family birthdays.
The family wish to thank the Middlechurch Home nurses and health care aides on B1 for their care of Mom, and her very caring Nurse Next Door companion, Harwinder.
In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to a charity of their choice.
Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre.
