LILLIAN OLIVE GOLDIE

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian Olive Goldie on September 29th, 2023.

Olive was predeceased by her four siblings and her husband Hal. She is survived by her three sons, Mark, Colin and Kent, two daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, their spouses and six great-grandchildren.

Olive was born on a Saskatchewan farm in 1921. Her family endured drought and failed crops during the 1930s. Despite having very little, she fondly remembered having a very happy childhood and marveled at how her parents raised five children during those challenging years. She developed a great appreciation of nature and living creatures early in life. She was determined to make her education a priority, managing to complete grades nine to eleven by correspondence in only six months. She was assured this could not be done.

Olive loved reading and writing. She had several short stories appear in the Winnipeg Free Press as well as other publications. She was a member of the Canadian Authors, Penhandlers, as well as the International Toastmistress Club.

While Olive was a devoted mother and wife, she also had a strong work ethic. She had a long career including working at the Bank of Montreal, The Hudson’s Bay Company, The United Way and Co-op Credit Society. Olive, her husband and family loved travelling, and in retirement she ventured to Africa, southeast Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Olive was a longtime active member of Christ Church Anglican, volunteering and helping organize many fundraisers including their annual plant stand.

Olive loved family gatherings and went out of her way to be a fabulous hostess on so many occasions. Her sense of humor and storytelling bring back fond memories. Olive enjoyed good health until a short time prior to her death. Her lifetime of support and love provided to her sons and entire extended family will be greatly missed.

A small family service will be held to commemorate her life.
