Don was living Next door to where I lived prior to my age of ten years, Him being a teen in those days we never hung out with each other much, but I remember him and his brother Ernie taking me with them collecting railway ties that we then sold to the Corbins in the east end of Brandon. I’m sure I never got an equal share in the profits of the venture, but was happy to tag along. Over the years we lost contact sadly, but every so often I would receive a visit and we would chat in front of my home. I recall telling them I would never stand on the road chatting unless they came for supper the following Sunday. They agreed and sure enough they came. I had bought a bucket of chicken for my mom as I thought I would surprise everyone with my home cooking of “East Indian dishes” not warning anyone before hand. To my biggest surprise everything was enjoyed not even a smell left, even the chicken was all eaten. Sure was good to see as I would have been eating it for weeks after. Couple things I will never forget, interestingly I noticed Don lived to 89 same as his grand father, my father did, you never know I might still have a couple days left to go yet also. May the Lord always watch over and care for all our family regardless of how close or distant we become. - Posted by: Gordon Henry McCormick (My fathers first marriage sons child. ) on: Dec 30, 2023
