Joan Estelle Britton of Brandon, MB, passed away peacefully with family by her side in Brandon, MB on October 8, 2023, at the age of 89 years old.
Born in Watson, SK on July 27, 1934, Joan lived on the farm with her parents and younger brother Ronnie in Sturgis, SK. Working on the farm and spending time with her cousins were her favorite pastimes.
At 20 years old, she ventured off on her own to Regina to go to college. From there she moved to Calgary where she continued working until the age of 27. When home on summer vacation she met her husband Ron at a dance at Crystal Lake, SK. They were then married on July 2, 1960.
They spent the first few years of their marriage in Lynn Lake, MB, and then decided to try their hand at farming and returned to Sturgis, SK, to start their family. Eventually they gave up farming and returned to northern Manitoba where they raised their children, Pamela, Michael, Duane and Laurie in Leaf Rapids. After all four children were in school she began working for the Department of Natural Resources. She loved her work and was very involved in the community teaching piano lessons, being part of the choir, Glee Club, curling club and CWL.
In 1987, they relocated to Brandon, MB. Joan spent a few years working for Westman Communications and she joined St. Augustine’s Parish. There she was a member of the Music Ministry as an organist and pianist for mass, weddings and funerals.
Prior to her passing she lived at Victoria Landing where she again was a very active member of the community squeezing in as many activities as possible.
She is survived by her children, Pamela Plato (Allan), Duane Britton (Christine Shaw), and Laurie Pelechaty (Michael); grandchildren, Cody, Aaron, Jessica, Emma, Megan, Jack and Grace; and great-grandchild Juni.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Ronald, her daughter Cathy and son Michael.
Anyone who knew Joan was touched by her kindness. Her family was the light of her life. As her family grew up her children and grandchildren considered her to be one of their best friends. We all learned so much by her example and we will miss her every day.
A prayer service will be held at Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332 8th Street Brandon, MB on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Augustine’s Church, 327 4th Street, Brandon, MB on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery for family members.

My condolences Pam and Family. Your mom was a wonderful lady. I had so many nice conversations with her while I worked at Home Health Care. I always enjoyed running into her out shopping. She will be greatly missed. Her smile would always light up a room. ❤️❤️ - Posted by: Robin Woodfield (Friend) on: Oct 14, 2023
