Misi passed away peacefully on October 7th, 2023 at the age of 98.
He leaves behind his loving wife Winnifred (Winnie) of 42 years; his sons Michael Jr. of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Roy of Seattle, Washington; twin grandsons Mason and Rowan; and nephews Tibor (Kata) and Attila (Voli) Gyorgy of Veszprem, Hungary.
Michael escaped Communist Hungary and obtained political asylum in Switzerland, then immigrated to Canada in 1956.
He attended the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained his B.A. in Physical Education and then his B.A. in Education. He became Supervisor of Physical Education Programming for both the Catholic and elementary schools in Yorkton. He started his teaching career in 1967. Using gymnastics as a building block, he influenced the lives of hundreds of students in Yorkton.
He was an avid kayaker and marathon runner, and was inducted into the Yorkton Sports Hall of Fame on September 27th, 2014. In 1975, Michael was named Sportsman of the Year in Yorkton. He liked classical music, especially opera.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral service held. The interment will take place on October 23rd at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.
