Following a lengthy illness, Peter Arthur Sherman, aged 62, died peacefully at home in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, on October 6, 2023.

  • I grew up with Petey as one of the “Planet Kids” I lived on Mercury Bay. from K-12 we went to Byng together and VMC. Petey had a HUGE HEART and The Biggest Smile and could always make us laugh. When Petey was around it was always a guarantee it would be a good time whether it was a house party, meeting up at Neptune Park, Camping at Old Pin or just hanging out at one of our houses. He was one of my friends that was always welcome in our home, my Mom adored him and loved to listen to his stories. I fondly remember at one of my parties him cutting up on of my Moms frozen Sirloin roasts to make steaks for all that were remaining in the wee hours, going to my folks garden and getting some veg and potatoes to cook up with the steaks that we BBQd at 3am. We were all so lucky to grow up in Fort Garry and have to friends we had back in the day! I was so heartbroken 💔 to hear of his passing he was an awesome guy to all that knew him. My condolences to his family he def was one of the good ones. Rest in Power Petey xx 🍕 Shannon Finucan “Finucie” - Posted by: Shannon (Finucan)Bradley (Friend ) on: Oct 20, 2023

  • My sincere condolences to Pete's family. Pete ("Petey!") was a friend of mine at Vincent Massey in the late 1970's and into the 1980's, before I moved away from Manitoba. My memories of Pete are of an all around sweetheart of a guy, always smiling and always ready for a laugh. Pete was what I would call a genuine intellectual, prepared to have a deep-dive discussion - and to defend his opinion - on a multitude of topics, which he did deftly. And, he was a great friend. I too was present to witness Pete bite the BiC lighter in half... and I survived a Pete-thrown projectile or two as well. We have lost one of the good guys. - Posted by: Johann ("Ho-man") Tergesen (Friend) on: Oct 17, 2023

  • Dear Julie, Adele, Jadrien, Matthew, Peter Roger, Mark, Jeff and families. I remember around 1994 when I was building my house Petey and his brother-in-law Ken came over with a load of firewood to our place as a house "warming" present. Petey had such a big smile and I thought that was the nicest thing anyone could have done for me. The Sherman family are good, hard working people and we have always thought highly of them all. Our deepest condolences during this most difficult time, Brian, Margaret, Benjamin & Adam Dusik - Posted by: Brian, Margaret, Benjamin & Adam Dusik (former neighbor) on: Oct 16, 2023

  • My sympathies to Julie, Adele, Jadrien, Matthew, Peter Roger, Mark, Jeff and all the Sherman families. The Dusik and Sherman families grew up in Oak Bluff and went to school together. Our families have a long history of friendship over many years. We have always enjoyed our times together with the Shermans and think highly of them in every way. My deepest condolences on your loss of dear Peter. Respectfully, Joyce Dusik - Posted by: Joyce Dusik (former neighbor) on: Oct 16, 2023

  • I met “Petie” sometime around 1980 and I soon found that, not only was he somebody worth listening to, it was wise to keep an eye on him as well because there were bound to be projectiles. It could be a lawn dart flying in from the sun, a racquetball rocketing toward your eye, or a bic lighter that he had decided needed to be chomped in half. One New Year’s Eve at a Whiteshell cottage, some friends and I thought the main event was over once we’d all gone to bed, but Petie launched into a solo comedy routine comprised of the most inane off-the-cuff nonsense imaginable. It was hilarious and it seemed to go on for hours. We both begged him to stop and were disappointed when he did. No-one who was there is likely to forget it. As fun and wacky as he might have been back then, he was also a gentleman who had interesting things to say about world events that many of his peers probably weren’t even aware of. It’s hard to believe anything could take him down. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Mark (“Ferg”) Doerksen (Friend) on: Oct 15, 2023
