RONALD CHARLES ROCHE

It is with deep sadness, the family of Ron Roche announce his sudden and unexpected passing on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Portage la Prairie Hospital.

Ron was born May 20th, 1935, in Winnipeg to parents Roy and Gladys Roche. He was the third generation to grow up on the family farm in Rosser, MB. He attended Little Mountain, Cecil Rhodes and Isaac Newton Schools. Ron was an original member of the local 4-H grain club in the Little Mountain area. He enjoyed curling at the Gordon Curling Club and in Winnipeg and playing recreational hockey.

Ron worked at various jobs in his early years, working in construction in Saskatchewan, hauling pulpwood out of Ontario, hay and gravel locally. In the early 70s he obtained his MB PSV authority and began operating as Interior Transport opening up greater opportunities in the trucking industry.

In 1979 Ron met Patricia Cheadle (nee Anderson). They married in Las Vegas and enjoyed 44 happy years together. Pat had five children the youngest being Grant who was 15. Grant spent many hours at the Roche farm with Ron and Ron’s brother Brian. He very much appreciated learning the ropes of the trucking industry and some farming as well. Over the years Ron was both thankful and blessed to have Grant in his life.

Ron and Pat were avid hockey fans and for several years were season ticket holders with the WHA and Winnipeg Jets. They enjoyed several winters in Arizona where they acquired many new friends. While there he coordinated the shuffleboard program and he and Pat were active participants. Upon returning home in the spring Ron would take long haul trips travelling throughout Canada and the US with Len Dubois and Bison Transport.

Ron experienced a variety of health issues over the years always beating the odds. This time it wasn’t meant to be. Life changed for both when Pat suffered a stroke in 2013. Pat’s family are truly grateful for the kindness and care Ron has provided over the years.

Ron was predeceased by his parents Roy (1979) and Gladys (2010), brother Brian (Sept 2023) and great-granddaughter Brynlee Jones (2021).

He is survived by his beloved wife Pat, daughter Brenda Woods (Denis); sister Diane Blue (Ben) and stepchildren Rob (Ang), Dwayne (Shari), Cheryl (Kevin), Sandra (Guy, died 2022), and Grant (Corie). Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Jeanette, nieces, nephews and the Davis cousins.

The family would like to thank the medical professionals for the care he has received in recent years and to the staff at Grace Hospital and especially Portage Hospital for their end of life care and compassion to Ron and his family.

Cremation has taken place and as per his request there will be no funeral service.

  • Our sincere condolences to all of Ron's family and friends. I drove for Ron and Brian in the early 70's and owe them a great debt of gratitude. Through part of that time, because I had no permanent address, Ron had taken me into his personal residence to nurse me back to health when I had fallen ill for a time. Thanks Ron, it was greatly appreciated and never forgotten. Rest In Piece Ron... - Posted by: Howard McDonnell (Friend ) on: Oct 15, 2023
