KRISTA DAWN BODNARUK
On Sunday, October 8, 2023, Krista Dawn Bodnaruk (Senkow) passed away peacefully.
Krista was born on May 2,1979 to proud parents, Tammy and Don, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Three years later her brother Donnie arrived to complete their family.
In her early years, Krista enjoyed time with her Baba and Geege in Grand Rapids. Here she spent her time eating fried chicken, going on mail runs and walking to the local RCMP station to take Geege lunch at the mature age of five.
Krista attended Lord Selkirk School Division, from kindergarten to Grade 12 where she was active in Ukrainian dance and school band. She attended University of Manitoba, focusing her studies on Canadian History. She paused her education to start working full time at Gunns Bakery in June 1998. On her second day she was expected to slice a full rack of bread, which she completed despite not knowing how to and being too stubborn to ask for help. This started her successful career working her way to become assistant manager. During this time, she also studied accounting at Red River College. During her career she developed many lasting and valued friendships in the food services industry.
In 2011 Krista met her future husband, Don Bodnaruk, after a bakery customer (future brother-in-law) decided they would make a great match. Krista and Don married in 2015. During their eight years of marriage, they were inseparable enjoying travelling, spending time with their menagerie of pets and delighting in the great food scene of Winnipeg.
Krista loved travelling. Her adventures included a European trip with her brother, visiting Rome, Paris, and London. Other important destinations included Iqaluit, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Chicago, New York City, Washington DC, and Minneapolis.
Krista was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012; in 2016 it had metastasized to other locations in her body. Throughout her battle she underwent numerous treatments, scans and tests which included both victories and setbacks. She faced this journey with extraordinary courage, poise, dignity, and sheer determination. Overcoming these obstacles meant she lived a life full of love, laughter and adventure. She never stopped gathering dear friends, bringing people together, going places, and enjoying dessert.
She is survived by her loving husband Don Bodnaruk, parents Tammy and Don Senkow, brother Donald Graham Senkow (Emily Taylor), her Baba Violet Bech, and numerous members of her loving family.
Krista was predeceased by grandparents, William and Muriel Senkow, and uncles, Bob Senkow and Jim Finucane.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
Krista and her family would like to thank the medical team at CancerCare Manitoba for all their kindness and compassion over the past six years. A special thank you goes to Drs. Gordon and Fatoye. They were always there to go the extra mile, lend an ear, and are amazing people. Krista’s family will be forever grateful.

Krista & I worked together for many years at Gunn's. She was warm, compassionate and energetic. When I needed someone to talk to she was always there. Don was her everything, God bless you. She was at my 50th B-Day party and although the treatments were happening she was all in. I loved her and was so happy that she and Don had a life together. My dearest Tammy Amanda and I were devastated to hear the news of your daughters passing. My mother maintained it is just simply wrong ( and too hard ) to bury a child. We wish you strength, courage and healing as you progress on this life’s journey. May there be some laughter amongst the tears and reminiscing……Know you and Don x2 are held in our hearts and prayers. Peace Randall & Amanda🙏 - Posted by: Randall & Amanda Klaprat (Friend) on: Oct 14, 2023
