Sylvia Lillian Hunter (nee Bassett) of Winnipeg passed away peacefully in her 90th year on October 5, 2023.
Sylvia was born in Cambridge (Hespeler) Ontario on January 15, 1934, to the late Reginald and Nellie (nee Dyer) Bassett.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Donald Hunter, having celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on September 3.
Much loved mother of Lesley, Jim (Gaylene) and Mark (Lisa); cherished grandmother of Curtis (Melissa), Bryan (Ashlynn), Danielle and Austin, as well as her five great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her brother Mervyn (Evelyn), her sister Barbara (Kevin) and son-in-law Tim.
Sylvia loved life and lived it to its fullest. She always saw the positive. She had a fast smile and a quick wit. She may have been small in stature, but she was a firecracker to be around. She was always the Christmas "ELF" to Don’s Santa. She was a skilled seamstress. Passionate about Guiding, she was a leader for many years. Sylvia loved to camp with her family, with the Girl Guides and with Don in their motorhome.
Sylvia was very grateful to have found a new home and community for her and Don at Kiwanis Court. She felt blessed with the friendships and support by the staff and residents alike over the past two plus years. The family would also like to thank the team at the Women’s Hospital at Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion during her last days.
Sylvia’s ashes will be interred at the Memory Gardens at St. Andrews Anglican Church at a private family service at a time in the future.
Condolences can be received by Neil Bardal Funeral Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Metropolitan Kiwanis Courts, Winnipeg.
