Betsy passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 12, 2023 following a prolonged illness at the age of 68 years. Predeceased by her parents, Eve and Ed McGill, she is survived by her siblings Patricia (Bob) Mazer of Brandon, Doug (Lorraine) McGill of Sylvan Lake, AB, and Mickey (Jack) Miller of Pitt Meadows, BC, as well as her nieces and nephews, Jonathan and Andrew Mazer, Tamara, Lee and Kate McGill, and Allison Butenschon. She also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews Lauren and Carter Mazer, Liam and Isla Mazer, Magnus and Layla Butenschon, and Chloe and Maddox McGill.
Family was very important to Betsy. She was especially close to her sister Patricia who was her main support and advocate throughout her life. Betsy had to deal with many challenges in her life but she faced them all with courage and grace, never losing her sense of humour. She loved to laugh and she loved music, fashion and spending time at Clear Lake. She was a regular volunteer for many years at the Nearly New Hospital Thrift Shop. Her family will miss her very much.
No formal service will be held. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to honour Betsy’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to your favourite charity.
