With heavy hearts we announce that in the early morning in hours of Sunday, October 15, 2023, Reverend M. Fraser Hunter passed away peacefully at the Bethania Personal Care Home at the age of 90 years old.
Fraser leaves to mourn his wife of 62 years, Reverend Deacon Helen Hunter; his two children, Donna-Rae and Curtis (Jackie); along with grandchildren, Brittany; Jordan; Rebecca and Derek as well as one great-grandchild Lincoln.
He will also be missed by his sisters, Beth McCannell; Georgina Thody; Marlene VanDusen; and brother Murray Hunter. He was predeceased by his parents, George Franklin and Ruby Jane; brothers, Elmer and Ivan, and sisters, Reta Loretta and Gladys.
Fraser was born in a small farm in southwestern Manitoba on June 3, 1933, in the District of Purves, Municipality of Pembina.
In his early years, the family lived in the Pembina Valley from Purves to Kaleida, Darlingford, Manitou and LaRiviere, into his teens.
Fraser moved to Winnipeg in 1953. Over the years he worked for Powell Equipment, Community Chev Olds, and Eutectic Castolin.
His spiritual life began at an early age. He loved to sing and sang with the St. George’s Anglican choir for 14 plus years. A Call to the ministry was eminent. He was ordained a Deacon on January 25, 1988, with the Diocese of Rupert’s Land and Priested at St. John’s Cathedral on May 19, 1990, by Arthur Heath Jones the Archbishop of Rupert’s Land.
Rev. Fraser had a long and dedicated cherished Ministry and Mission that took him to many Parishes of in the Diocese of Rupert’s Land. He provided faithful services for St. Catherine’s - Birds Hill, Eastern Beaches – St. Phillip’s - Scanterbury, St. Luke's - Balsam Bay, St. Jude’s - Grand Marais, St. Michael’s - Victoria Beach, St. Luke’s and St. Anne’s of Oakville and Poplar Point.
He will always be remembered for his caring love and profound sense of humour. He was an avid reader and spent many years in the bay window, reading and bird watching. He was also a long time Winnipeg Blue Bomber season ticket holder of 50 years. At golf, Rev. Fraser was the only one in the family to achieve a hole-in-one status. He also loved curling and cherished the many years playing the game.
He lived for servanthood and volunteering. For many years he was also involved in the Scouting movement in the Transcona Springfield - District. Rev. Fraser loved everything about the outdoors, especially the fresh air of nature and sunshine.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Bethania Personal Care Home and for Dr. Davies for their compassion and amazing care during this time. Special thanks to all who visited Rev. Fraser during his time at Bethania. It was greatly appreciated.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 3 at. St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive.

On Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Bethania Personal Care Home, Reverend Fraser Hunter passed away at the age of 90 years.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 3rd at. St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Fraser. He was my dad’s nephew. (Earl Hunter) Fraser stood up with my mom and dad when they were married, he did the funeral for my mom and performed my dad’s second marriage to Ruth Frith.
