WALTER WATT SCOTT

January 3, 1939 - October 14, 2023

Walter Scott passed peacefully at the Betel Home in Gimli, MB at the age of 84.

He was predeceased by his son Callum and his daughter-in-law Dorothy and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 64 years, Mary, sons, Alan (Leigh Ann), Glenn (Linda), daughter-in-law Lorna, grandchildren, Jamie, Vanessa, Alana, Alexandria, Gavin and Cullen along with seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Walter was born in Fraserburgh, Scotland and immigrated to Canada with Mary and their boys in 1968, stopping briefly in Saskatchewan before landing in Brandon. Walter was a millwright by trade and worked at Simplot for 11 years, and finished his working career with Manitoba Hydro retiring in 1997 as the Mechanical Supervisor.

While in Brandon Walter was actively involved in the Senior Soccer League that he and close friend Sandy Sanderson created. Walter was a Shriner, and played the drums in the pipe band. He was actively involved in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star attending numerous events in Canada and the US.

After retiring, Walter and Mary moved to Lester Beach where Walter worked part time with his son Alan at Grand Pines Golf Course. Walter golfed, curled, enjoyed happy hour at the Birchwood regularly and remained active in the lodge and Eastern Star. The diagnosis and progression of his Parkinson’s caused the move after 13 years to Selkirk where they spent three years before moving to Gimli.

Walter remained active and participated in the Men’s league at Links at the Lake until he was no longer able to play. Walter entered the Betel Home in Gimli in September of 2019. The staff at Betel treated Walter with extreme compassion and care until his passing, which the family is very grateful for. The family would also like to thank all the home care workers, doctors, nurses, health care aides, and staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital that cared for Walter over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson’s Canada-Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba, or any other charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
