Joe Tachinski passed away peacefully early in the morning on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
He will be missed by his sisters, Anne Romanchuck and Vicki Bingham and his brother Mike Tachinski. He also leaves behind his daughter Jo-Ann Zelen (Mike), son Glen (Christine) and his beloved grandchildren, Peter Zelen, Alex Zelen, Xander Tachinski, Victoria Tachinski, Kennedy Tachinski and Jackson Tachinski.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Joyce, sisters, Nettie and Joyce and brother Alec.
Joe grew up is Birds Hill, Manitoba. He met the local schoolteacher Joyce Reeves, and they married in 1954. With their children, they spent their summers first at Moose Lake and later, Buffalo Point. Joe worked for CN Rail until his retirement in 1988. He and Joyce enjoyed their retirement, living in Mill Bay, BC for four years and then spending their winters travelling, mainly to Florida, but also to Arizona, Australia and New Zealand. Summers continued to be spent at Buffalo Point, where Joe always ensured the deer and hummingbirds were well fed.
A passionate and accomplished golfer, Joe was a fixture at the Warroad Estates Golf Course, seldom missing a mens night or weekend tournament. Favourite times at the lake were with family, especially grandchildren, as well as Joe and Joyce’s vast network of friends. Joe, in particular, shared a lifelong friendship and many lottery tickets with Nick Pyrch, of Victoria, BC.
Joe took great pride in his grandchildren and loved to watch them in their various and numerous activities. Grandpa could always be counted on as chauffeur, golf instructor, travel companion and head cheerleader for all his grandchildren.
Joe was a man of few words, but when asked how things were he’d consistently reply, “just lovely.” Very fitting, as those words truly describe Joe Tachinski.
The family is holding a private service and planning a Celebration of Life in the spring when the golf courses open back up.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1M3.
