EDWIN JACKSON

June 30, 1931 – October 22, 2023

JACKSON, Edwin Andrew of Brandon passed away peacefully at Fairview Home. Edwin was born in Saskatoon, SK. He grew up and completed grade 12 education in Drake, SK. He helped in the post office that his mother managed and on farms his parents owned in and around Drake. One winter he worked briefly on the survey crew out of Edmonton, AB, then back to farming at Drake.

Edwin enjoyed music and played in the Drake orchestra and later, the Max White orchestra of Reston, MB. In 1953, he moved with his family to a farm in the Pipestone, MB, area, where they continued the business of raising purebred Shorthorn cattle. He served as steward, choir member, and lay representative of the Pipestone United Church, and was a member of the board of directors of the Belleview Manitoba Pool Elevators.

Edwin travelled a bit in the U.S. in connection with cattle business, and later enjoyed holiday travel to Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti with a friend from the farming district. While in San José, Costa Rica, he met Cecilia Psaila, and they married in San José in 1980. Cecilia came to Pipestone and lived on the farm for a while. Cecilia worked and lived in Brandon and went to the farm on the weekends.

In 1996, he left farming and lived in various rural communities. During this time, he made many trips during the winter to Cuba and one to Chile. He moved to Brandon in 2015. He enjoyed being a volunteer at the Brandon Regional Health Centre for 17 years, especially as he was a great conversationalist and interested in people’s lives. In December 2017, he moved to Fairview Home. He is survived by his loving wife Cecilia of Brandon, his niece Betty McDonagh and her family and several cousins in Ontario, and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his father Edward in 1980, his mother Florence in 1996, and his sister Iris Haist in 2001.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Edwin’s Life will take place at Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. The family invites you to wear bright colours in honour of Edwin.

Interment will take place at a later date at Pipestone Cemetery.

The family will be eternally grateful to the wonderful staff at Fairview for their loving care of Edwin.
