MARY ISABEL SCOTT

November 4, 1938 - October 25, 2023

Passed peacefully at the Gimli Community Health Centre, Gimli, MB at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her husband Walter who passed on October 14th, son Callum, daughter-in-law Dorothy and will be lovingly remembered by sons, Alan (Leigh Ann), Glenn (Linda), daughter-in-law Lorna, grandchildren, Jamie, Vanessa, Alana, Alexandria, Gavin and Cullen along with seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Mary was born in Strichen, Scotland and immigrated to Canada with Walter and their boys in 1968, stopping briefly in Saskatchewan before settling in Brandon. Once all of the boys were in school, Mary took a job in the cafeteria at the Co-op store and was a Manageress when it closed in 1982. Mary then went to work at Johnson’s Drug Store for a few years and finished her working career at the Clinic Pharmacy.

While in Brandon, Mary and Walter participated in the mixed ten pin bowling league and were actively involved in the Eastern Star attending numerous events in Canada and the US. They enjoyed numerous trips to Scotland to visit family, and enjoyed traveling by car to the west coast and down into the States.

After retiring, Walter and Mary moved to Lester Beach where Mary spent many summers caring for her granddaughters. She enjoyed doing crosswords and reading, was a regular at Vic Beach Bingo and remained active in the Eastern Star. The diagnosis and progression of Walter’s Parkinson’s caused the move after 13 years to Selkirk where they spent three years before moving to Gimli.

While in Gimli Mary acted as a caregiver for Walter and enjoyed going out for dinner regularly to the Lakeview Hotel. Over the years she enjoyed many trips to the casinos with South Beach being her favorite.

The family would like to thank all the Home Care workers, Doctors, Nurses, Health care aides, and staff at Gimli Community Health Centre that cared for her over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gimli Community Health Centre, CancerCare Manitoba, or any other charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life for Mary and Walter will be held at the Waterfront Center, 94 1st Avenue, Gimli, MB at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4th.
