ELIZABETH MARY TURNOCK

Born Elizabeth Mary Hart, in Minitonas, Manitoba on November 12, 1937, Betty Turnock passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 18, 2023, in Winnipeg.

She was the youngest of the seven children of Carl and Anna Hart. At a young age, the family moved into Winnipeg, where Mom began her education. After graduating vocational college, she took a job with the Dominion Rust Research Station. It was here that she met her husband, Bill Turnock. They were married in April of 1958, and started their life together in Winnipeg. The years that followed saw children, relocation, travel, loves, and losses. Mom had a wide range of talents reflected in decades of work as the secretary of Trinity United church and as a docent at the Manitoba Museum. But her greatest passion was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a bastion of calm in a tumultuous, ever changing, and confusing world. With patience and humour, she imbued in those she loved a sense of responsibility, particularly towards family, and showed us the gift of curiosity and questioning.

She is survived by her children, Jim (Glynis), Dave, and Bob (Diane), and by her grandchildren, Andrea and Liam, and by her surviving sibling, Annie Vialard. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bill, and by her siblings, Milton, Tommy, Charlie, Jerry, and Lawrence.

A celebration of her life is planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity United Church in Winnipeg, or the Manitoba Museum.
