My sincere condolences to Irma's family. I was Irma's housekeeper a few years ago before she moved from the parkway. I remember she was tough to get along with at first, and she always had tons of dishes in the sink when I came to clean each week. I wasn't supposed to, but I wanted to help her out and so I began washing the dishes for her each week and that was when she began to open up to me. She told me many stories about living in the sand hills and how she loved riding horses. She used to sit in her chair and tell me about her knick-knacks she had around her apartment. She had plenty of stories to tell, lots of them would be the same stories from the previous week, but I could tell they were the memories she held closest to her heart, because when she spoke of them she had a great longing in her eyes. In later times- before she moved away, I could tell there was a great sadness about her and she wouldn't come out of bed, but she would always ask me to come in her room and to hold her hands while she told me more stories about her past. She was a very sarcastic lady and was very quick witted. I can't remember what was said (something sarcastic I'm sure), but there was one time she had said to me "Well aren't you an angel with a dirty face." I had never heard that before and I thought it was pretty funny so it stuck with me. I have a tattoo of a beetle on my arm, she pointed it out and asked me if it had a name, I told her no and she said that it should be called mr. Beetle guy, and so it was named! Irma was one of my favourite people to clean for on the 2nd floor and I was sad to see her go. I think about her often, I wish her all the best wherever she may be now. Thank you for all of your wonderful stories! I wish all the love in the world to her family, and my deepest condolences. -Zenayda. - Posted by: Zenayda (housekeeper at parkway retirement community ) on: Sep 18, 2024
