MICHAEL JOHN BERNAS

June 29, 1956 - October 21, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Michael John Bernas on October 21, 2023, at the Victoria General Hospital.

Mike was born in Winnipeg to Stanley and Aniela Bernas. He worked at Maple Leaf Foods for 41 years and at Faith Academy for over 20 years. Mike was a hard-working man and put his heart into everything he did. He touched many lives at home and at work with his outgoing personality and sense of humour. Through the years you could often find him playing sports and rooting for his favourite teams. He was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan since the age of 11. He also loved camping, watching wrestling, or just having a campfire with family. Mike led a happy and fulfilling life and will always have a special place in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Michael is survived by his wife Kathleen and two daughters, Michelle (Roberto) and Melissa and his grandson Alexander. He is also survived by his siblings, Lillian, Claudia, Julian (Ruth), Steven (Gloria), Leonard (Pat), Gerald and Carmel. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. and will be held at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre located at 3030 Notre Dame Avenue.

Donations may be made to the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada and to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
