She was predeceased by her husband Fred, parents Clifford and Birdena (Doak) Hovey, and brothers Watson and Allan Hovey.
Kay was born in Boiestown, New Brunswick on September 29, 1930. After completing her high school in Boiestown, Kay graduated from Business College in Fredericton, NB. She and Fred were married for 63 years, which led to nearly 40 years of military life and travel. Locations included Chatham, NB, Ottawa, ON, St. John, NB and Shilo, MB. The highlight was the 4 years they spent in Europe while stationed in Lahr, West Germany with NATO. Travels in Europe included: France, Italy, Spain, England, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria.
Despite all the moves Kay valued her independence and also enjoyed a career outside the home with various federal government positions in Payroll and Human Resources.
She was a fan of many sports: horse racing, curling, baseball and hockey. Some of Kay's favourite hobbies were sewing, quilting, hosting family dinners and baking her famous shortbread cookies.
After moving to Vasa Lund Estates, she enjoyed playing shuffleboard and pool with many friends. She was known as a fierce competitor at scrabble and cribbage.
Kay and Fred continued to travel across Canada from coast to coast and north to Great Slave Lake. They enjoyed winter vacations to California, Florida and Las Vegas.
Grammie/Great Grammie cherished being a grandmother and great grandmother. She treasured and truly enjoyed her time spent with each grandchild and great grandchild, and she was extremely interested in all of their activities.
We would like to thank the health care professionals at Grace Hospital and WRHA Home Care. We extend thanks for the comfort and care she received from Partners for Home and the warm welcome from the staff at the Courtyards at Linden Pointe. Our special thanks to all of the first responders.
In keeping with Kay's wishes, a private family service was held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home on October 28, 2023.
