LORNE BRYDON KINGYENS

May 20, 1930 - October 22, 2023

Peacefully, Lorne left us on October 22, 2023, at the age of 93, with family by his side.

Left to mourn is his wife of 69 years, Pearl, his children, Susan, Faye, and Stephen (Sandra),his grandchildren, Jessica (Troy Townsend) and Lucas, his great-grandchildren, Finn, Sully, Macie Pearl and Ava, his sisters, Doris and Elizabeth, along with many other family members and friends.

Lorne served in the Canadian Armed Forces (RCAF - telecommunications branch) followed by 10 years at the Executive Manitoba Curling Association and five years with the Corp of Canadian Commissionaires.

A love of volunteering, curling and golfing over the years kept him, and Pearl, active and young at heart. Lorne always enjoyed sharing stories of all his best shots with friends, over a drink (or two), after his games.

The family would like to thank the 2nd floor staff of the Grace Hospital and the staff of Sturgeon Creek 1, for their care and assistance.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB.

  • Our deepest sympathies and condolences in Lorne’s passing. He was a great friend and he will be sorely missed. Dave & Joan Follette - Posted by: Dave Follette (Friend ) on: Nov 03, 2023

  • I always enjoyed visits with Uncle Lorne and Aunt Pearl along with Susan, Faye and Stephen. There were Christmases in Sarnia, Reunions in Larder Lake, Lindsay and of course the very special one they hosted in Winnipeg. My 13 year old daughter Kristen travelled and toured Canada, by VIA Rail, from Toronto to Edmonton to Red Deer then Calgary; By Brewster Bus to Banff, up the Icefield Parkway to Jasper; Back on Train to Vancouver for 5 days, then back to Jasper, Edmonton, Saskatoon and finally to our destination, Winnipeg. A lot of family had travelled to the Great Kingyens Family Reunion and it was of course so well organized with activities and gatherings I will never forget. I never new Winnipeg was such a cultural centre and had such historic importance. also mosquitoes the size of small airplanes! Lorne and family were so entrenched in life in Winnipeg. It was a life highlight when they hosted the Briar, of course again well organized by the Winnipeg Curling Club ,of which Lorne and Pearl were such proud, longtime members and supporters. There is so much more to Lorne's influence over the Kingyens extended family. From hours of meticulously tracing family ancestry which was posted in his rec room for all to admire. He fielded questions with his usual dry wit, but always spot on intellect. I returned to Winnipeg years later and enjoyed a fantastic, hospitable visit with his family including his grands and great grands. And always a great bottle of his wine too! He always stayed in touch with his own family, even travelling to Australia. He was adept with all things electronic and used SKYPE and other ways to communicate the importance of family connections. His last visit to Sarnia was to visit my widowed father, his older brother Gerald. I was the driver, and Dad was , as always, the tour guide! We enjoyed the sights and sounds of Sarnia, Bluewaterland. Dad's brother and sisters Grace, Doris and Elizabeth, always appreciated Lake Huron and the St. Clair River, with all the big ships passing. I never took these things for granted again. I was a child of the North, born in Kirkland Lake. My heart and mind remembers life in Virginiatown and wonderful times at the Jones Family Cottage in Bancroft. Grandpa Kingyens' motorboat carried us out on fishing trips enjoyed by all, but thrilling to young grands. That little boat also went to Florida for years and used for fishing and shrimping. Uncle Lorne was the glue that kept us so connected. I, and I'm sure many others, feel the same gratitude and appreciation for all he brought to our lives. He will be sadly missed but more importantly, he will always be remembered with love and good memories, and toasted with good wine! - Posted by: Sharon Taylor (Niece) on: Nov 01, 2023
