SUSE (SUE) ELISABETH WARD
Suddenly on October 19, 2023 our amazing wife, Mom and Oma, Sue Ward, passed away at home.
Sue leaves to mourn Doug, her husband of 55 years; her two children, Renata and James (Jasmine); her four dearly loved grandchildren, Elliot, Rhys, Audrey and Samuel; her two brothers, Ralf (Fran), and Klaus (Gail); her nephews and nieces and extended family; many close friends and her faithful companion Simon. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Anna; her brother Rainer, and her dogs, Wimpy, Toby and Molly.
Sue was born in Esslingen, Germany, and immigrated to Canada with her family when she was six years old. She lost her father at a young age and was raised by a strong and independent mother, Anna, who shaped her into the self-sufficient woman she became. Her mother was her role model and confidante and remained her closest friend until Anna passed away.
Sue was a devoted mother and Oma. She was involved in all aspects of her children’s lives growing up, and actively supported them into adulthood. She provided a rocksteady foundation and always put their needs above her own. Her support and love for her children was palpable and unwavering and became even stronger for her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her world and the sentiment was mutual. When the grandchildren were involved no task was too great, no distance too far, and no event would be unattended.
Sue was gracious and sociable and had a keen sense of humour. She was a great visitor, listener, and maintained a large social network of close friendships, many spanning over 35 years. She treated her friends with kindness, loyalty and generosity, and they were quickly adopted as her chosen family.
Sue enjoyed spending her summers at Hillside Beach with Doug and her grandchildren, relaxing in nature. She created a warm and inviting space, and loved the serenity, especially in the mornings when she would watch the sunrise over the water while sipping coffee with her dog at her side.
She led an active lifestyle and enjoyed tennis and golfing. She was an engaged member of her community and spent hours walking her dogs and curating her beautiful garden.
Sue felt an exceptional connection to animals, stemming from her big heart and generous spirit, and she always shared her life with a dog. She often said that she liked dogs more than people, but she was adored by both.
Sue leaves behind a void that can never be filled. She was the best possible mother, Oma, wife and friend. We are left to remember her generosity, humour, love and support and to honour her life by living in happiness; this would bring her immense joy.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in her name.
Please join family and friends for a celebration of her life at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home on November 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.

I first met Sue when I joined Dominion Securities in 1969. Sue and I worked together for several years, along with Ollie Landega and Harvey Scrivener. Sue was always fun to work with and she was so dependable. In those early years, Doug and Sue lived "down the street" from us on Niagara, so we had even more contact with them and their children. I will always remember her smile and her upbeat personality. My condolences to Doug and the rest of her family. Jim - Posted by: Jim MacDonald (friend and co-worker ) on: Nov 03, 2023
