It is great sadness that we share the passing of our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma, sister-in-law, auntie, cousin and friend on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Wawanesa Personal Care Home, Wawanesa, MB.
Left to mourn Doris’ passing are daughter Marcy Elliott (Roger), sons, Vernon Severson, and Brian Severson (Jeannette), stepchildren, Brian Croft (Marge) and Sandra Revet (Aurel), grandchildren, Kris Tully (Ursula), Krystal Fisher (Brad), Justin Severson (Madison), Mathew, Colin, as well as great-grandchildren, Kamrin, Catrina, Zachary, Mason, Xander, Liliah and Chloe, Molly, Connor and Brice. She is also survived by brother Clayton Heskin, sister-in-law Genoveve Erickson (Gordon), as well as numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, cousins, a large number of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Ron in September of this year. She was also predeceased by granddaughter Mellissa, sister Ruth, brothers, Lester, Ronnie and Donnie, her first husband Ron Severson, and her parents, Oscar and Effie Heskin.
Doris was born February 10, 1938 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan to Oscar and Effie Heskin. She spent her childhood years on the farm just outside Norquay, Saskatchewan where she learned the value of hard work and perseverance. She received a grade 11 education before graduating with a course as a Health Care Aide. In 1956, she married Ron Severson and together they raised three children, Marcella, Vernon and Brian. Despite all the good times, Ron and Doris divorced in 1976. In 1986, she married the love of her life, Ronald Croft. They spent many years together travelling to many places in the world and enjoying many of the same interests of which card games and puzzles where two of their favourites. They both enjoyed their garden and the bounties it provided. They were both devout members of the Anglican Church, specifically St. Mary’s Anglican Church of Brandon. In 2016, they sold their house on 10th Street East where they resided for 37 years and moved into Victoria Landing before moving to Wawanesa. In 2019, Ron was admitted to Wawanesa Personal Care Home and Doris followed shortly after. Even in her final years, she spent her time fussing over her beloved husband and her family, until dementia took away a lot of the good memories. Doris had a great love for life and her family which was evident by the huge smiles at many family reunions, as well as small family gatherings where ever her grandchildren were involved. She was a truly great lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her earthly remains have been cremated with interment in Norquay, SK to be at a later date. Anyone wishing to make donations in Doris’ memory may make them to the Wawanesa Health Centre, (Palliative Care), Box 309, Wawanesa, MB, R0K 2G0, or to the charity of your choice.
