It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Vivian Bruce at the age of 92.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15 at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, 525 Wardlaw Ave. in Winnipeg.

I have known Vivian as a colleague since I joined the University of Manitoba in 1968. I was part of the team that helped to develop canola oil. Vivian worked with the late Bruce McDonald on the nutritional aspects while I worked with the late Marion Vaisey-Genser on the composition, functional and performance properties. We had no idea as to the significance of this work and I was delighted that she received the Order of Manitoba for her important contributions to the global success of canola oil. Vivian was a strong and dedicated academic who also served as Department Head. She was always well organized and a good listener and played an important role in the Women's Institute. Our birthdays were both on May 4th and we always communicated our good wishes on that day. Her death marks the passing of an important period in the development of Home Economics and Nutrition at the university. Vivian developed close relationships with many of her graduate students and I will miss her for her down-to-earth communications.
