MABE HARWOOD
Mabe passed away peacefully on October 25, 2023, at the age of 101.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert (Bob) Harwood in 2010, her eight siblings and their spouses, and her brother and sister-in-law Ernie and Betty Podjan.
She will be forever missed by her children Randy (Sue), Malcolm (Lora) of Winnipeg, Nancy of Vancouver, and extended family.
Born on July 30, 1922, in Brandon, she moved to Winnipeg and worked at Merchants through which she met Bob. Following their marriage in 1947 and Bob’s graduation from Architecture and time spent in Ottawa, they returned to settle in Winnipeg.
Mabe was very active throughout her life. Always eager to help others, learn and discover, she took on many volunteer roles, and enjoyed various hobbies and other activities. She was a devoted wife and Mom and a great cook, with something always bubbling on the stove or baking up in the oven. She had a special affinity for sewing, quilting, and knitting, and regularly played bridge - a game at which she excelled.
Mabe was an avid swimmer and shared her love of the water as an instructor and lifeguard at the Pan Am and Sherbrook pools. As a member of the Charleswood Golf Course, Mabe relished the challenge of the game and the camaraderie of fellow golfers. Mabe and Bob were also members of Reh-Fit, regularly meeting up with a group of like-minded dedicated retirees at the crack of dawn. While Mabe and Bob traveled to many parts of the world and enjoyed living abroad for several years, Mabe was happiest when with family and friends at home and at the cottage at West Hawk Lake.
In later years, Mabe resided at Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence where she formed many friendships and continued to live each day to the fullest.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Shaftesbury Park. Their dedication and compassion made a significant difference in Mabe’s life. We also thank the staff at Grace Hospital for their exceptional care and commitment to Mabe’s comfort and well-being.
Many thanks to all those who joined the family in the Celebration of Life for Mabe held on November 2, 2023.

I am so sorry to hear about Mabe's passing. I cannot believe she was 101! What a great woman. She was always welcoming when I showed up at the cabin before the kids got down and was a fun person to be around. The last time I saw her was at my dad's funeral back in 2004. I always missed her and Bob after my divorce from her son. Both were great people! - Posted by: Catherine Appler (ex daughter in law) on: Nov 15, 2023

I knew Mabe for many, many years when I worked at The Reh-fit Centre. She attended my early morning stretch and strength classes, always full of energy and a big smile. She had a great sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this time. - Posted by: Patti (Former staff of Reh-fit) on: Nov 04, 2023

My deepest sympathy on Mabe passing. My late parents Jim and Erma Hotchiss were good friends of my parents. - Posted by: Janice Franchuk (Family friend) on: Nov 04, 2023
