ARTHUR MAR

November 24 1948 - October 14 2023

With heavy hearts, the family announces the peaceful passing of Arthur (Art) Mar on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 74 years of age.

He was predeceased by his father, Arthur Sr., in 1978 and mother, Sue, in 2021.

Art was born in Toisan, China. At the age of four, Art and his mom arrived in Lac du Bonnet where they were reunited with his dad who operated the Goodway Restaurant.

Art had many interests and hobbies. As each of Art's siblings arrived, Art doted on them, and would share his knowledge of stamps, coins and life in general. As their residence was above the restaurant, Art heard music playing on the jukebox every day which led to a lifelong love of music. Art was also a gifted writer and had a passion for reading.

Art will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Ken, Susan (Murray), Shirley and Wyman (Razel). He had a special bond with his three nephews, Daniel, Christopher, and Alexander. Art was proud of their accomplishments and always took an interest in their activities. The nephews will always have fond memories of their uncle.

He was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed by those who knew him.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Linda Di Clemente for the care and companionship she provided to Art.

A private family service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lac du Bonnet Regional Library.

We love you Art. Rest well.

  • My Dear Art, I will miss you so much. I have so many wonderful memories of my sweet friend he was one of my first friends in Lac Du Bonnet, we started school together in grade one and remained close all through school and until now. Art was such a dear friend, He was always so thoughtful and sent me birthday, Christmas cards, and exchanged phone calls occasionally over the years. We re-united in 2019, it was such a great day, we caught up on our lives, and I will hold that precious day close to my heart forever. Rest my Friend, I love you for eternity. Deepest condolences to the Mar Family, we were blessed to have this wonderful soul in our lives. Best regards, Bonita - Posted by: Bonita Solomon (Friend) on: Nov 09, 2023

  • My deepest condolences to Art's family. We have known each other for over 65 years and I have always seen Art as a kind, gentle and caring person. He always showed a sincere interest in your life. Whenever we met up, usually by the LDB Library Art loved to reminisce about the old school days, the sixties and the music of the time. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rest In Peace dear Art. - Posted by: Harold Billan (Friend) on: Nov 09, 2023

  • Art and I were in grade 2 together and I became his friend quickly. He was the most respectful and caring person and shared his kind nature with all. I have looked forward to seeing Art every summer when i return to Lac du Bonnet for 4 months. I have always had the best chats with him and will miss his inspiration. My condolences go out to his family and the friends that he has made. Gracie Biedler - Posted by: Gracie Biedler (Long time friend.) on: Nov 06, 2023

  • (I am retired from the Winnipeg public library). Arthur visited us often at the Louis riel public library in Winnipeg. Arthur always came in with a smile for all of us, so pleasant, and he would always had time to stop and have a friendly chat, always interested in asking us about our lives. The staff at Louis Riel informed us of Arthur’s passing today. We all feel this loss and are deeply sorry to hear of Arthur’s passing. Our condolences to his friends and family. He will be missed. - Posted by: Crystal M (Friend) on: Nov 06, 2023

  • To the Mar Family, My sincere condolences on Art's passing. He was such a kind soul and so many interests. I worked at the Library; so had daily visits with Art and enjoyed our little chats very much. We often spoke of the "old days" at Goodway and how hard your parents worked. I, for one, will miss seeing him around town. Rest in Peace Art! Janice Hoffman - Posted by: Janice Hoffman (Friend) on: Nov 04, 2023
