PEARL LACKO

March 20, 1929 - October 27, 2023

Peacefully, with family by her side, Pearl passed away on October 27, 2023, at the age of 94.

Pearl is survived by and will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her two sons: Larry Lacko (wife Loral, grandson Justin Lacko with partner Matt Pater, and grandson Evan Lacko with partner Selina Wiebe) and Wayne Lacko (wife Ramona, grandson Nicholas Lacko and wife Sheena with their son Oliver, and grandson Christian Lacko with fiancé Jacquelyn Klassen); as well by loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband Nick; parents, Peter and Teenie Rychlicki; sister Mary Chikowski; brothers, Charlie, Nick, John, Mike; and grandson Matthew Lacko.

Pearl was born in Silver, Manitoba on March 20, 1929, and was raised on the family homestead farm.

Eventually, Pearl ventured away from home and went to work in the big city Winnipeg, as a cleaning lady. On November 4, 1950, Pearl married the love of her life Nick Lacko and together they raised a family, made a home and shared some 58 good years of marriage.

Throughout her life, Pearl worked a variety of jobs including Norway House fishing camp kitchens, Naleway catering staff and at Clifford’s in retail sales.

Pearl enjoyed travelling with Nick, family and friends on many bus trips, being members at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, gardening, entertaining family and friends, regular visits to the family homestead farm and keeping the family well stocked with perogies.

Pearl will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful and generous person. From preparing meals for neighbours in times of need as well as caring for brothers, Nick and John in their declining years. To Pearl, family always came first. Nothing brought her more pleasure than to host a family holiday meal, the table set full of delicious traditional Ukrainian dishes.

Baba had a loving and active relationship with her grandsons. Baba was very proud of her grandsons and was always there for them. Mom was there for her family and her family was there for her. Her grandchildren loved their Baba and truly enjoyed time spent with her. A special blessing in her life was becoming a Great-Grandmother to great-grandson baby Oliver.

Special thanks to the caring nurses, health care aides, doctors and staff on St. Martha’s ward, 4th floor at Holy Family Home who looked after Mom with such genuine compassion.

A funeral service will be held on November 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4477 Main Street, West St Paul, Manitoba.

Pallbearers will be: Nicholas Lacko, Christian Lacko, Ramona Lacko, Justin Lacko, Evan Lacko, and Brian Rychlicki.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom’s name may be made to Holy Family Home.
