ERNA C. MACEK
We are saddened to announce the passing of Erna Macek, our dear Oma, at the age of 94. Born and raised in war torn Germany along with her nine siblings, she left our world peacefully after a two month hospitalization. She was independent and self determining in the comfort of her own home to the end prior to coming to hospital.
Her family came to Canada in 1968 residing in Stratford ON, Vancouver BC, and finally the RM of Brokenhead just north of Beausejour to pursue farming interests. Oma lost her beloved husband of 31 years, Alfred Ernst Macek, due to illness on December 22 1981 and subsequently moved to Oakbank MB in 1986 to be closer to her son Ralf, daughter-in-law Paula and soon to be growing family.
Skilled in arts, crafts and very self motivated, she created a wonderful and “Gemütliches“ home where her grandchildren visited often, with her love to surround them. She also spent some time in her retirement years travelling back to Germany to visit with her surviving siblings Alfred, Adele, Marga, Wilma, Büb and their families.
Oma’s pride and joy were her grandchildren Bryce (Brittany), Brynn (Brendon), Brooks (Lauren) and Bret. She delighted with them in their successes and shared and consoled in their disappointments. A special joy came into her life with the arrival of her great grandchildren Reese, Quinn and Dallas. Much thanks to Lauren and Brooks!
Oma gave freely to a number of charities supporting the less fortunate over the years. She understood human need, having come from meagre circumstance. But she also believed in exercising ‘right choice’ when given opportunity.
Oma will be dearly missed. She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, understanding and principled counsel (even if that was hard to hear at times). Oma was, is and always will be Love.
Our family wishes to extend a thank you to all staff at the Med/Surg and Med 2 ward at Selkirk Hospital, Drs Michael Sochocki, Tim Hiebert and staff at the HSC and finally Dr. Joseph Partyka, Scotty and all the wonderful staff at Beausejour Hospital.
A Family Memorial Service will be held at Seasons Funeral Chapel in Oakbank.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Agape Table.

Ralf, Paula, Bryce, Brittany, Brynn, Brendon, Brooks, Lauren, Reese, Quinn, Dallas and Bret, Our very sincere condolences on the passing of Oma. She will be remembered for her kindness and selflessness. Oma constantly asked how our family was doing (despite living far away). She was a very strong person, both in character and determination. May her example be a continuing presence and guidance for living your lives. Much love, Andrew, Michelle, Lara and Drew - Posted by: Andrew Werbowski and family (Brother-in-law to Ralf) on: Nov 13, 2023
