MEGAN ANN GLASSCO

September 13, 1962 - October 14, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Megan, friend, Aunt and Sister on October 14, 2023, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 61.

Megan is survived by her brother Andrew (Ella) her nephew Jeremy (Brittany) their son Tyge, and Megan’s niece Jacqueline (Cory). She was predeceased by her loving parents Leon and Alison Glassco. Megan also leaves behind extended family members and friends living in Canada, Great Britain, and the United States.
Author, poet, skier, swimmer, runner, community volunteer and activist. Megan grew up in Winnipeg, attended Balmoral Hall School and graduated with honours in 1980, receiving several academic and athletic awards. She attended Queens University in Kingston, Ontario and earned her degree in Sociology. Despite Megan’s personal challenge with mental health, she served as the President of the Queens Alumni Association-Winnipeg Branch from 1996-1999 and continued her educational journey in Community Legal Education and obtained a CTESL Teaching English as a Second Language.
Megan was thoughtful, kind, hospitable, and a generous person who carried herself with poise and elegance. We are thankful for the many happy memories to carry us through. She will be sadly missed.

The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion she received at St. Boniface Hospital in the McEwen Building and the community social agencies and workers who were a staunch support to her for many years.
Cremation has already taken place with a private interment to take place later. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday November 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Megan may be made to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I’ve known Megan for years and always appreciated her humour, intelligence and feminist perspectives on women’s rights, and specifically on diversity equity and inclusion. I especially enjoyed the work we did on the Take Back the Night Committee in Winnipeg. I am so sad to read of her passing today. My deepest sympathies to Andrew and family and all those who knew her. - Posted by: Hazel Meredith (Friend) on: Jan 23, 2024

  • I was a classmate of Megan's and to this day, have so many memories of her over those years. Some are quiet, some raucous, some truly hilarious. Megan was smart, passionate, articulate, funny and loyal. We all went our separate ways after graduation and I didn't manage to keep in touch. In the years that followed, our paths crossed once, very briefly, but by then too many years had passed and I couldn't track her down again. I regret that. We always think we'll have time and we really don't. To Megan's family and friends, I am so very sorry for your loss, she was one-of-a-kind and she was my friend. - Posted by: Tracy Maconachie (classmate) on: Nov 24, 2023

  • I was always glad to see Megan at a variety of events in the women’s community. She was a great ally and activist. I was fortunate that she shared her poetry with me. We talked about our respective creative processes and how writing helped us with just about everything. I valued her a great deal. My condolences to you… her family. - Posted by: Deborah Romeyn (Friend ) on: Nov 10, 2023
