NANCY HELEN GRAY

Nancy Helen Gray passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023.

She was pre-deceased by her parents William and Helen, and brother Bill. She is survived by her husband Allan Smeall, dog Ticket, siblings Ainslie, Barb (Ted Bigelow), Ian and Cari (John Canning), as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Born in Winnipeg on December 3, 1951, Nancy got her Nursing Degree at St. Boniface Hospital and then her BA at University of Western Ontario in London. In 1977, she returned to nursing in Winnipeg, and subsequently started her own Occupational Health and Safety consultancy.

Nancy was a very devoted family member, friend, dog owner and Wildwood Park neighbour. She loved tennis with friends and biking around the world with Allan. But her favourite seat from spring until fall was either in her kayak or from her dock gazebo on Echo Bay where she would watch the many birds - from ducks and loons to eagles.

No funeral service will be planned.

Memorial donations may be made to Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3A 0M1 or the United Way, 580 Main St, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1C7.

  • Allan, I am so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to work with Nancy as a consultant. She was a pleasure to work with. Because she was so patient and knowledgeable I learned so much from her. I really looked forward to our weekly sessions as we ended up connecting about so much more than work. She will be missed. - Posted by: Willems, Jennifer (Coworker) on: Nov 20, 2023

  • To Ainslie, I just heard this evening that Nancy has passed away. I want to extend my sympathies to you, her husband and family. I played sports with Nancy in high school, but remember her most as my classmate the WGH, SON. When we moved into the new residence Nancy and I became next door neighbours. So we shared a lot of small moments over that time. I'd see Nancy at the odd reunion, and ran into her at a gallery opening once when I was back visiting. But I was kept up on her 'doings' by my sister. Margo and her husband sat directly behind Nancy at the ballet for decades. I always enjoyed seeing her, sorry we hadn't crossed paths once more. - Posted by: Marilyn Foxford (classmate) on: Nov 19, 2023
