JANINA (NINA) BURDZ

Peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023, Nina Burdz passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 91, with her family by her side.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Antonina Michalczyk, and by her loving husband of 65 years, Victor Sr. She was also predeceased by brothers-in-law, John, Paul, Walter and Boris Burdz along with her dear

sister-in-law Sonia Burdz and cousin Mel Rusiecki.

Left to cherish and treasure Nina's everlasting memory are her son Victor, daughter Nora (Milan) Zahrobsky and grandchildren, Brett Burdz (Alicia), Rachel Burdz (Scott) and great-granddaughter, Luna Miscavish. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Peter (Diane) Burdz and sisters-in-law, Josie and Irene Burdz along with numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Nina was born in Zalesie, Belarus on April 18, 1932 and immigrated to Canada in 1953. Soon after she married the love of her life, our dad, Victor Sr.

Mom was a tireless hard worker who was blessed with golden hands, anything she did was done with love and perfection. Nina was a true friend to all who knew her. She had this special quality and loyalty to her friends and family, anything that was told to her in strictest confidence was put in her own personal vault never to be repeated. Our mother always kept her word.

As great of a mother as she was, she was an even greater grandmother to Brett and Rachel. Our Mom and Dad devoted their retirement years to their grandchildren. Together they were the true epitome of what perfect

grandparents should be. They truly were in a Class of their own.

Goodbye wasn't in Nina's vocabulary and it was a word our mom never used. Instead, she always said, "Till we meet again."

Our family would like to thank her wonderful homecare nurses Amanda and Paulo for their daily visits of loving care and compassion while our mom resided at River Ridge II.

Funeral Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, which are respectfully declined, our family would rather you instead consider a donation to: Diabetes Canada, 1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M5G 2R5.

Rest in peace our dearest Nina, Till we meet again.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My deepest condolences to all the family during this time of loss of your beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. The love and dedication shown in the visits by Vic, Brett, Rachel, and Nora reflect what a wonderful person Nina was, and what a close knit family she raised. Such an incredible enduring legacy to pass on to her loved ones. All of you provided such wonderful care of your Mom and Grandmother. She was so lucky to have you. Vic, you are such a good son, I am sure that you mom knew that and appreciated all that you did for her. She was loved deeply, so we grieve deeply too, but it’s the fond memories that can be a great source of comfort during such a challenging time. Vic and Nora, I have found that a mothers love will always be treasured. She is the first to love you, and always held that love close to her heart, as you hold hers close to yours now. The angels rejoice at her homecoming. My Heartfelt thoughts go out to you in this sorrowful time. - Posted by: RON H (Friend ) on: Nov 23, 2023

  • Mrs. Burdz as I've always known her. She was the ultimate dedicated Mother to Victor and Nora, I was always envious of her organizational skills that were passed on to my best friend Victor. Victors clothes were always so perfect (ironed and clean) his dresser drawers were so immaculate with bleached white socks and perfectly folded shirts and pants. The family ate so well with in such a spotless gleaming clean house that Nina managed so preciously. She was always so hard working and took the bus to Monarch Industries everyday so she could look after her family and saving for their future. I feel so fortunate to part of her life through my great friend Victor. Leaving behind a fine family, grandchildren and a great grandchild she will be sorely missed by all. May she rest in peace. God bless. - Posted by: Rod Moorhead (Family friend 56 yrs.) on: Nov 21, 2023
