WALTER R. GLOWACKI

1940 - 2023

Walter passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13 at the age of 83, with his family by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice, sons, Rob (Linda) and Brian (Gaye), grandsons, Matthew (Nathalie) and Jason, brother Ted (Jackie), nephew Peter, nieces, Lisa, Barb and their families, his sister-in-law Stephanie, as well as many relatives and friends that Walter cherished so much. He was predeceased by his mother Barbara, father Kostanty and brother Milton.

Walter grew up on the family mink ranch in St. Vital and graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate. He began his working career with Manitoba Medical Services and spent the remainder of his employment years with the Manitoba Department of Justice as a Court Reporter.

One of Walter’s great passions was his garden where no weeds dared to tread. This was also the same philosophy he applied to his lawn where he could often be observed mowing and manicuring. He loved to cook, with sour cabbage rolls, burgers and dill pickles among his specialties. He also enjoyed curling, baseball and his daily newspaper that he faithfully read cover to cover. Dad would eagerly await the weekly arrival of his grandsons who would be spoiled with his amazing “big breakfast,” a ritual that continued into their adulthood and fostered a deep and meaningful relationship between “Big Geeg” and the boys.

Walter will forever be remembered for his generosity, his mischievous humour and infectious smile. He would do anything for his family, and whatever was his, also belonged to them.

We would like to thank the compassionate staff at the Grace Hospital who took such good care of him during his last couple of weeks. Flowers are gratefully declined. Please consider donating to the Grace Hospital Foundation’s ICU Capital Campaign.

A private gathering is planned.
