ROBERT N. SOMERVILLE
Born: Jul 21, 1958
Date of Passing: Nov 09, 2023
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT N. SOMERVILLE
Peacefully on November 9, 2023 at Poseidon Long-Term Care Home, Rob passed away surrounded by the love of family.
Rob will forever and always be remembered with love by his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Tegan (Manny) Vieira and Chelsea Somerville; his sister Barb Somerville; and large extended family.
Rob was born in Winnipeg, the son of Ken and Laura Somerville, and grew up in St. Vital. He was predeceased by his parents, and his parents-in-law, Dave and Marg Heise.
Rob graduated from Norberry School, Dakota Collegiate, University of Manitoba, and University of North Dakota where he obtained his Masters in Speech Language Pathology (SLP). Rob worked as an SLP throughout rural Manitoba helping children with communication challenges.
Rob had a truly kind and generous spirit and was known for his wonderful sense of fun, humour and a great laugh. To know Rob was to love him. Family and friends were especially important to Rob; his three girls being the light of his life.
Rob treasured the special times spent with family and close friends; also vacationing with them, whether camping in the summer, road trips across Canada, various trips to Aruba, Alaska, The British Isles, Vancouver, Banff, Disney World, Fort Lauderdale, Texas, and Europe.
Rob was a lifelong athlete; a marathon runner, volleyball and tennis player, curler, skier, and amateur rock climber when the opportunity presented itself. He loved ski-dooing with family and friends. He was also an avid fan of the Blue Bombers.
Rob’s love of music was a constant throughout his life. He was the first to agree to attend a concert, create his own mixes, go record hunting for old and new music, and even learned to play the guitar.
Rob also enjoyed watching various TV shows, B movies, old horror movies, and the Looney Tunes.
The family wishes to thank the amazing people at Poseidon Care Centre, especially 5th Floor Staff “Family”, who always treated Rob with kindness and compassion; it was deeply appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 2 at 11:30 a.m. in Atlantic-Garden City United Church, 725 Atlantic Avenue. The service will also be livestreamed at the following: https://youtube.com/live/bCfyMVAUczQ
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Rob’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Manitoba Possible, or charity of your choice would be welcome.

To Rob’s family: I knew Rob when I was an undergrad student at UND. He was one of the few males in our department at the time and we shared Winnipeg as our home town. I recall his gentle demeanor and easy way with clients while observing him work. When I was back at UND a few years ago, I met his daughter Teagan who was then a grad student and thought “What a great legacy!” Clearly Rob’s love of the profession had a significant influence on his family. Sharing my deepest condolences with all of you as you mourn Rob’s passing. Colleen (Finnen) Martens - Posted by: Colleen Martens (Friend) on: Dec 06, 2023

My sincerest condolences to Robert’s family and to Carolyn’s. As their love was so deep, so must be the gap it leaves in Carolyn’s, Teagan and Chelsea’s hearts. You have our love to help you along the way to regain you respective footing. Although his absence will be felt, so will his eternal love for you and all the beautiful inheritance he has left in your lives: his values, his memories with you, his love of life. You will remain in our prayers….sorry for my not-so-perfect English writing abilities. - Posted by: Dominique (University friend of Carolyn ) on: Dec 02, 2023

My deepest condolences to Rob's family. Rob and I went to UND together and carpooled through the years back and forth between Winnipeg and Grand Forks with our other Winnipeg SLP classmates . He was absolutely the kindest and nicest person and was always in a good mood no matter how much pressure we had in our Master's program. May his memory be a blessing. - Posted by: Jacquee Glance (Classmate ) on: Nov 26, 2023
