Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD DEAN IWANOCZKO
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Dean Iwanoczko on November 20, 2023 in Selkirk, Manitoba.
Dean was the first born to Don and Erna Iwanoczko on February 7, 1966. Dean spent his entire life in the City of Selkirk. As a young boy he loved all sports, hockey, baseball, golf, basketball, you name it, he tried it, and most likely loved it. He was also a proud member of the Selkirk and District Ukrainian Dance Ensemble for many years.
Dean spent many hours at the Golf Course in Selkirk during his childhood. He was selected to the Manitoba Junior Golf Team and was also one of those golfers who could proudly say he was a member of the hole in one club. His love of the game inspired him to become a Board Member of the Selkirk Golf Course in hopes of improving the game for others.
During the winter months, Dean spent his time at the hockey rink. Starting with Lord Selkirk Minor Hockey, Dean moved on to play in Winnipeg with the Transcona Railers and the MNS Stars. During his time with the Stars they competed at the Macs Midget Tournament in Calgary.
High school sports included volleyball and basketball. December 1983 brought MVP honours and 3A High School Provincial Volleyball Championship with the Selkirk Royals.
Many summer family camping trips to Detroit Lakes and the Whiteshell hold very special memories for all of us. Surely this played a part in Dean’s love of the outdoors. Along with camping there was fishing, and of course all forms of hunting. Many great memories for Dean came from his fishing and hunting trips with great friends and family.
Dean graduated from Red River College in 1986 with a Business Administration Diploma which forged his career in the business accounting world. His compassion for others, especially his staff was evident in his work life.
Dean’s love of sports and the outdoors was passed on to his children, Drew (1993) and Amy (1995) as their hockey, volleyball and ringette coach. As well as “Dance Dad” and the best hunting partner for Drew.
Dean was one of the most thoughtful, caring people we knew. Always checking in on others and making sure things were okay with those closest to him.
Dean was predeceased by his grandparents, as well as his best friend and brother Dale in 1998. Left with a huge void in our lives and hearts are his children, Drew (Rachel), his grandsons, Wyatt and precious Wycklen whom he was looking so forward to meeting, Amy (Brendon); parents, Don and Erna; sister Dana (Richard), his nephews, Matthew and Jacob whom he was so proud of; auntie Audrey and his special friend Michelle.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Lindenschmidt, receptionist Denise, the Doctors and nurses at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre and the caring paramedics.
Funeral service will take place at the Selkirk United Church on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
There are two special gifts we should give our children - one is roots the other is wings.
For those wishing to honour Dean’s memory, donations would be gratefully accepted by the Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Scholarship www.sportmanitoba.ca/donate-to-sport or Selkirk & District Community Foundation Inc. www.sdcf.ca

Dear Dean's Family; I knew Dean some years ago, about the time his children were born. We had a cohesive work group in those early days and Dean helped contribute to that atmosphere through his humour and friendship as well as being an easy co-worker. When I think of Dean, in my mind's eye and ear, I can see him walking down the aisle to his desk, which was across from mine and as he passed by he would say " Hi Honey, I'm home!". He made me smile every morning even though I knew what was coming! Please accept my very sincere condolences on your loss of Dean.
