Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMA MARTHA ZYLA
It is with sadness but in celebration of a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Norma on November 22, 2023. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter, sisters, Elsie and Phyllis, brother George, and parents, Hulda and Rudolph.
Norma was born on September 27, 1935, near Hatton, Saskatchewan, and was the cherished mother of Pam (Ambroise), Michelle (Andrew), and grandmother of Aidan, Mila, Atticus and Axel. She was a much-loved aunt, friend, and neighbour.
Norma was strong and independent. At the age of 16, when her family returned to the farm after a brief relocation to Winnipeg, she chose to remain in the city. She then took one of her most coveted positions as a board marker at the stock exchange in the Richardson building. Norma then worked as a dental assistant, a desk clerk for Manitoba Hydro, and then spent 21 years as the secretary at Christ Lutheran Church.
Throughout her life, Norma enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She spent countless hours cheering her grandchildren on at sporting or school events. She enjoyed playing crib, cooking, baking, and sewing. Everyone who tried them, agreed that Oma’s perogies were the best. She was an avid reader and a talented guitarist who also loved music.
She was always generous with her time and made friends everywhere she went. She was a selfless person who volunteered throughout her life at church, Lower Fort Garry, Selkirk Hospital, school breakfast programs, NEST, and Trinity Food Pantry. She was always willing to lend a hand and help someone out when they needed it.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church at 211 Kimberly St., in Winnipeg, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
A special thanks to those who provided care, comfort, companionship, and encouragement during her illness.

I was so saddened to read of Norma's passing. Norma was the epitome of "sweetness and kindness"! Our friendship goes back many years when we were singles She was a wonderful friend and her obituary was so beautifully-written. My thoughts and condolences go out to her loved ones. The pictures in the paper showed the beautiful young Norma and the equally-beautiful mature Norma. RIP Norma... - Posted by: Joy French (Friends) on: Dec 01, 2023

Norma & Peter were our neighbours for many years on Moody Ave in Selkirk. Our girls spent many hours playing with Pam & Michele & we'd always hear about the cookies etc that Norma made. She was such a kind, caring lady. - Posted by: Vera Kowalchuk (Neighbour) on: Dec 01, 2023
